Half of your neighbors worry about where their next meal will come from.

A recent regional Food Security Assessment found that 49% of households surveyed worry about running out of food before they can afford more. At the same time, changes to SNAP are making food assistance harder to access and the impacts are being felt by families, farmers, and our entire local food system.

SNAP does more than help people put food on the table. At our farmers markets, more than $160,000 in SNAP and SNAP Match is spent each year, helping families afford fresh food while supporting the farmers who grow it.

As federal safety nets shrink, our community will need to show up for one another.

Read more about what’s changing with SNAP, what it means for the Gorge, and how you can help in our latest newsletter or on our blog. Link in bio.

Northwest Grazing offers goat grazing services to control unwanted vegetation. Their goats effectively reduce invasive plants like blackberries, poison oak, yellow starthistle, knapweed, and scotch broom. They also clear fuels to improve fire safety. Goats’ unique digestion handles tough plants, and their grazing boosts soil health by returning vital nutrients.

Crop Talks are coordinated by Gorge Grown Food Network and Underwood Conservation District. We host monthly Crop Talks at regional farms, April through September. Crop Talks provide vital networking and resource-sharing opportunities to local producers and farmers. Learn more about upcoming Crop Talks- www.gorgegrown.com/croptalks
