Project Koru

Project Koru http://www.projectkoru.org Project Koru helps young adults with cancer move forward after their disease through community, empowerment, and adventure.

We run survivorship camps to foster self-confidence and inspire life renewal through surfing, standup paddling, skiing, snowboarding, hiking and other outdoor adventures.

We did it — together 🎉

Because of you, we didn’t just meet our year-end goal — we surpassed it. 💙

Together, our community raised $7,653, unlocking the full $2,025 matching gift and closing out 2025 at 375% of our goal.

Every dollar raised brings us closer to funding Camp Koru in 2026 — creating space for young adult cancer survivors to find connection, healing, and community in the outdoors.

And we’re just getting started 👀
We’ll be sharing more soon about our winter/snow camp, along with ways to get involved more deeply in what’s ahead and help shape our future direction.

From all of us at PK — thank you for believing in this work and showing up for the next wave of our camp participants.

Here’s to an impactful 2026 ✨

What PK does — and why it matters 💙

Project Koru exists to help young adult cancer survivors reconnect with themselves and one another through community and the outdoors. We serve survivors ages 19–39 — a distinct and often overlooked group within the cancer community.

Since 2011, we’ve supported 732 survivors through 61 camps and retreats, creating space for connection, confidence, healing, and joy.

As we head toward the end of the year, we’re rallying around a big (and meaningful!) goal: 2,025 donations of any size before the end of 2025. Whether it’s $5, $10, $100, or whatever you can give, every gift helps carry our mission forward.

Cancer takes so much. Project Koru gives back — and none of it happens without you.
Thank you for supporting our Ohana ✨ Link in bio to give.

Hi Ohana 👋
I’m Leora — but many of you know me as Roo — and I’ve recently stepped into the role of Interim Executive Director at Project Koru.

Professionally, I’ve spent more than 15 years leading mission-driven nonprofits that serve underserved communities. But stepping into this role is deeply personal. I’ve experienced Project Koru as a young adult cancer survivor, a Camp Koru participant, and a volunteer leader within this Ohana.

PK is the community that helped me reconnect with myself after my diagnosis — and reminded me I wasn’t alone. I’m honored to help guide PK through this time of transition and rebuilding — and into its next chapter.

More to come very soon 💙

A HUGE thank you to the KB4C Michigan Crew for showing up and raising $30,000 for Project Koru!!
13 of you kited, surfed, winged and paddled in crazy conditions with tenacity and joy.

This group of individuals traveled to kite a new location almost every day during our week long endurance race, with someone (Paul!) arriving via airplane and heading straight to the beach to kite in wind gusting to 40knots.

DEDICATED. PASSIONATE. GRIT!

All while pressing into fundraising and spreading the word about Project Koru’s mission. We appreciate your stoke, long days on the water, creating this amazing KB4C Michigan community and dreaming big with us.

2025 Top Fundrasiers:
Paul Andrus $5,011 (Grand prize trip to El Cuyo, Mexico)
Greg Holland $4461
Roger Wakeman $3035

2025 Top Mileage winners overall:
Paul 276 miles
Alex 223 miles
Tyler 132 miles
Susie 123 miles

Congratulations to you all on an incredible and successful event. From all of us at PK, THANK YOU!!

✨ Today is National Nonprofit Day ✨

Nonprofits everywhere are changing lives — and at Project Koru, that means creating healing spaces where young adult cancer survivors can reconnect, rebuild, and rise above their diagnosis. 🌊🌺

But here’s the truth: we currently have almost 600 survivors on our waiting list for a life-changing camp. That’s 600 young adults who are ready to find healing and community — and we need your help to make it possible. 💙

Programs last a week, but the impact lasts forever. Every gift matters. Even $10 a month brings us closer to welcoming another survivor into the Koru ohana.

On this day that honors the power of giving back, we invite you to join us in ensuring no survivor has to wait for hope.

At Project Koru, healing doesn’t happen in silence. It happens on surfboards, on trails, and in shared stories under the stars. We create space for young adult cancer survivors to move, laugh, reflect, and rediscover their strength—together.

This mission is bold, and it’s growing—and with your support, we can reach even more survivors who are craving connection after cancer.

A small gift can help provide a warm meal, a safe place to stay, or a piece of gear that lets a survivor fully take part in the adventure. And when you give monthly? You help us plan with confidence and welcome even more survivors each year.

Whether it’s a one-time gift or part of your monthly impact—every dollar brings someone closer to healing.

You might not think $25 can change a life—but we’ve seen it happen.

Imagine turning your hardest chapter into someone else’s fresh start.

That’s what happens every day through the Koru Continuum. Survivors show up, find healing in community and adventure—and many come back to lead the next wave. They mentor, they volunteer, they become the light for someone else in the dark.

When you give to Project Koru, you’re not just donating. You’re investing in that cycle of growth, healing, and leadership that continues long after camp ends.

Hello! Beth Peck executive Director of Project Koru here😍

Today I have some bittersweet news to share, but also gratitude and great hope for the future of PK. The time is come for a new director to take the reign’s of this incredible organization as I am stepping down and moving on in the next chapter of my life.

Project Koru started with a vision : a world where young adult cancer survivors find community and empowerment in their survivorship. I have led or overseen over 25 camps and over 250 young cancer survivors over the past seven years in my role as executive director. I have witnessed connection, Hope, renewed dreams, deep healing, and appreciation for what Project Koru and our Ohana has brought into so many lives.

I have such gratitude for what Project Koru brought into my life, both personally and professionally, and I’m excited to assist our Board of Directors in the search for a new leader to light the way for PK. Please help spread the word by visiting projectkoru.org/careers

Once again, thank you to the Koru community for standing with me as we grew, and as we continue to inspire human connection, personal growth and healing. What we do is extraordinarily special. Thank you for being along for the ride.

As always, peace and good (vi)bes,

Vi
