The Texas Animal Health Commission (TAHC) has confirmed a case of New World Screwworm (NWS) in Zavala County, Texas. In response, TAHC and the USDA have established an infested zone in the area, implemented animal movement restrictions, and expanded surveillance and fly-trapping efforts to prevent further spread. Targeted releases of sterile screwworm flies are also being used as part of the eradication strategy.
