Council on Adolescents of Catawba County Our Mission is "to inspire today's youth to be physically and emotionally healthy through education, awareness and advocacy."

The Council provides Healthy Youth Education programs for adolescents ages 10-18 in Catawba County. Our prevention programs educate youth about making healthy choices, bullying, future goals, healthy relationships, internet/social media safety, nutrition, peer pressure, puberty, reproductive health, sexually transmitted infections, sexual violence, teen pregnancy, setting boundaries, and avoiding risky behaviors. We also administer the Lunch Buddy Program, a mentoring initiative that utilizes adult mentors to help students identified as at-risk for dropping out of school. The goal of this program is to provide these students with positive adult role models, increase attendance rates, reduce school drop-out rates, improve grades, and decrease office referrals. The Council offers these programs to schools, community groups, and faith-based organizations. We can also provide parent education workshops. To learn more about our programs, please visit our website or call our office!

Our Smart Moms and Dads Coordinators, Bree and Cindy, accidental-twinning today in their matching dresses! 💕

Matching outfits aside, these two are an absolute gift to the Council on Adolescents and every single family they serve. The warmth, dedication, and heart they bring to their work every day make our community so much brighter. We don't know what we'd do without this dynamic duo! 🌟

✨Mentor Moment from Bunny✨

We want to give a shout-out to Ben Nobles, longtime Lunch Buddy volunteer and local pastor. Last week, I got a call about a student at Balls Creek who needed a mentor, so I called Ben to ask if he could recommend anyone, and he once again answered the call to serve!

Ben now has four Lunch Buddies this school year, which is going above and beyond. He's really stepped up in the Bandy's district, and he's currently my only mentor serving both Mill Creek and Balls Creek. I'm so grateful for his willingness to show up wherever there's a need. (That said, if you have any friends or coworkers who you think would be willing to make the trip out to Balls Creek or Mill Creek to meet with a student, please send them my way!)

We appreciate all of our amazing Lunch Buddies and the impact they have on the students and the community! Thank you! 💜

This week is National Teen Driver Safety Week! 🚗💨
Through our Preventing Distracted Driving Initiative, we aim to bring awareness to young drivers about the importance of practicing safe habits behind the wheel and eliminating distractions.
Today, we partnered with Catawba Valley Community College and Redgie The Red Hawk again to host another successful event! 🛑📱 A huge thank you to all of our incredible partnering agencies who make this hands-on programming possible for our local students.
Did you know?
📊 In North Carolina, distraction is a leading factor in youth collisions, with over 17% of all statewide crashes involving a distracted driver.
📊 Research shows that a teen’s crash risk increases with every additional passenger in the vehicle.
📊 Speed and distraction remain among the top preventable causes of teen driver crashes across NC.
Together, we can keep our roads and our young drivers safe. Remind the teens in your life to put the phone down, limit passenger distractions, and ! 💙
