July's meeting featured an out-of-town speaker, Mark Rienke, of Marble Branch Farms. Mark gave an excellent presentation on the Dendrobium orchid genus. He answered questions afterwards and also brought numerous beautiful and well grown orchids for attendees to purchase. For those unable to attend you missed a really exceptional meeting. No programs for August as we have our Members Only CVOS BBQ. Will post regarding September's meeting shortly. Great July meeting at the Catawba Valley Orchid Society. Know there are a lot of orchid growers in the Piedmonts ... don't be shy, non-member walk-ins are always warmly recieved.

July's CVOS meeting was thoroughly enjoyed by members and new joinees. Mark Reinke gave a detailed and information laden presentation along with a life times experience growing various Dendrobium and species. The taxonomy, habit, hybrids and growing needs were discussed in detail. Mark also provided a spectacular selection of hybrids and species in flowering, to near flowering sizes. The Members had a great time adding new plants to their collections and we continue to invite those interested in orchids to visit one of our monthly meetings.

Just a reminder ... This upcoming Tuesday, at 7:00PM, Mark Reinke from Marble Branch Orchids, will being our featured speaker. Mark is a longtime commercial grower out of SC. He will be speaking on Dendrobiums. Mark will also be bringing a great selection of top quality orchids to sell at special meeting pricing. Why buy online when you can attend July's CVOS Orchid meeting and talk with the grower and acquire some new plants for your home. Light refreshments will be served. Attendees are also welcome to bring in plants for diagnosis or to show off after Mark's talk. Hope you all can make it. Non-Members always welcome . . . Here are pics of some of the great sales plants Seagrove brought to the meeting. Out-of-town speakers are always appreciated and the membership looks forward to being able to add new plants to their collection. We also had an excellent turnout of students interested in orchids from CVCC.

April 12st the CVOS had Linda Thorne, an American Orchid Society accredited judge and owner of Seagrove Orchids, speak on Oncidium, the 'Dancing Lady' orchid group. Always an informative, entertaining and enjoyable speaker, Linda also brought plants from her greenhouse for sale. A great turnout, great sales table plants and excellent refreshments provided by member Martha Lord.
