When Community Food Club asked our Concentric Leaders which cultural foods they’d like to see on its shelves, Amina almost didn’t ask for halal meat. She had been told before that it was too expensive.

This time, Katie Sienkowski, Director of Food Club, listened and called supplier after supplier until halal chicken and ground beef were available for Food Club members.

On October 28–29, step inside the world of Treetops during one of five intimate, 90-minute experiences. Hear stories of transformation, savor globally inspired bites, and bid on one-of-a-kind pieces from our Sewn Collection. Bring a friend who’s new to Treetops and share the experience together. Want to gather a group? Host a table for you + five guests. ⁠

🌿 October 13- Book Club Reading Group- Enjoy a complimentary drink in the café while you read. Take a quiet moment for yourself or connect with fellow readers.⁠
🌿 October 15- Crafting Together- Bring a craft or sewing project for an evening of creating side by side with Treetops Lead Sewist, Katya. ⁠
Then pull up a chair at Book Club Discussion (Oct 17, 10-11:30am) as we talk through Against the Loveless World by Susan Abulhawa.⁠
🌿 On October 20- Ink & Impact, a monthly letter-writing gathering where neighbors advocate for immigrants and refugees in our community. This month's theme is focused on supporting refugees through Medicaid changes. We’ll provide the materials, sample messaging, and contact info for your elected officials. Stay the full hour or just drop in during your lunch break. It’s a simple way to turn concern into action. 🧡⁠

What's new with Treetops' Driver's Training Program? A lot has happened in the last six months! 🚗

Because of your support, 23 refugee and immigrant women have completed Drivers Training and 14 have earned their driver's license, with more on the way!

This year we launched a new in-person orientation where program members learn road rules, signs, and vehicle controls from Cox McKenzie Driving School, alongside our staff interpreters and childcare volunteers. Before lessons begin, we sit down with each woman to hear about her goals, her hopes, and what she needs to make driving possible.

And the results speak for themselves! One woman was so determined to drive before her baby arrived that she finished her lessons in record time. Another member stepped away from lessons for nearly two years, came back, passed her road test, and bought her own car. Every new driver also goes home with a gift bag of car essentials and a $50 gas card for her first fill-up.

A driver's license is so much more than a card in a wallet it's freedom and independence. It's the job across town she's qualified for, the doctor's appointment she can get to on her schedule, and the school pickup she makes on time. These women are doing the hard work, and we're so proud to walk alongside them.🌿

Guests will enjoy global appetizers and charcuterie from Martha's Vineyard, cultural soups from Uncle Cheetah's, and traditional dishes from Treetops members and alumni, including Kala's Catering and Latin Sweet Bakes.

It was a season of hard-earned achievement for six members of our team. Puja, Sarafina, Debbie, Zakia, Eliana, and Nedith all completed their Community Health Worker (CHW) certifications!⁠
⁠
CHWs serve as trusted, trained bridges between community members and healthcare and social service systems, helping with health education, care coordination, and access to essential resources. With these new certifications, our community now has CHWs who speak Nepali, Swahili, French, Kinyarwanda, Dari, and Spanish—expanding our ability to provide care and support that is both culturally and linguistically responsive.⁠
