The Early Discovery Center is a Reggio Emilia–inspired childcare program serving children from 6 weeks through preschool, and offering before, after, and summer care options for school‑aged children. Our Mission is to continuously expand the potential of children, the experiences of educators and the involvement of parents within the diverse community of Grand Rapids, Michigan. Our Vision is to base all decisions on the principles of Reggio Emilia incorporating current research on learning as well as developmentally appropriate practice. Our Goal is to provide equitable opportunities for all children to receive quality early childhood education and we will achieve this through observing, listening and documenting, and by understanding and accepting that each child is unique and has their own way of learning. Our Philosophy is to encourage the social, emotional, physical, intellectual and aesthetic development of each child within our program on a daily basis. Children in our program are able to grow and develop in a safe, stimulating environment where their potential is appreciated. Children and adults have time to collaborate on projects and express themselves in the area of fine arts using a variety of materials and “languages.” Children are able to play and learn within the context of developmentally appropriate experiences. Our staff are made up of people who are loving, caring, and enthusiastic about children. We believe that open two-way communication is best for all of us. Each child is unique, and the Early Development Center is a place where parents will find the support they need in the care and education of their children.
