Western Colorado Writers' Forum

The Writers’ Forum is committed to fostering a rich and diverse writing community on Colorado’s Western Slope that invites participation from diverse cultures, customs, and life experiences. A 501(c)3 nonprofit founded in February 2010, the Western Colorado Writers’ Forum was created in response to the many writers on the Western Slope looking for opportunities to learn, read, publish, and teach.

Our offerings over the intervening years have included two major conferences with national speakers and teachers; public readings on the street and on air; workshops for writers in all categories from poetry to journalism; community outreach; slam poetry contests; stage performance; open mic opportunities; a podcast offering in-depth interviews with local and regional guests; cohost on Lit Radio on KAFM Community Radio; and even casual monthly networking get-togethers to foster writer connections.

REMINDER!
Hello, Poets & Poetry Lovers!
June’s Poetry Night at the Library will be Wednesday, 10 June, 2026, from 6-7:45 PM. We meet in the Mesa Room at the Main Library in Grand Junction. For June, it’s another back to basics topic and we’ll be taking a look at the Volta. In May we discussed the life and work of Jean Toomer, modernist poet and part of the Harlem Renaissance. The challenge was to try blending the informal language of your own background with a more formal style, OR to try writing a poem about an in group social issue or insider problem while being informative but not accusatory. If you’re not feeling the challenge, that’s fine – bring something else to read or just come listen. Everyone is welcome!

Yesterday was our Write-a-Thon fundraiser, and it was so much fun! We posted a video of everyone hard at work. We had 27 attendees, made new writing friends, gave away prizes, fueled up with snacks and beverages, and got lots of writing done. More than one writer brought in several pledges from friends and family, and our final total was $1,746 - wow! We sold a few of our books as well, so that is another $55.

We can’t thank you enough for your enthusiastic participation. As a board, we still need to discuss it further, but we are looking at doing this twice a year as a fundraiser with all the bells and whistles (snacks, prizes, trivia), and we may also host a few just for the dedicated writing time. Watch the newsletter for updates.
