Race the Red is on July 13. All skill levels welcome. Races start at 6:30 pm at D**e East, Fargo. The early bird registration is $20/person.

NEW: Dinner from Heart 'n' Soul Community Cafe: Racers can receive a free meal from Heart 'n' Soul Community Cafe available during the event from 5:30 - 8pm. Intern Spotlight!

This summer, we're happy to have Dee Merriman on our team as a media intern! Originally from Brookings, South Dakota, Dee has always had a love for the outdoors and is excited to be giving back to the community and the environment. They are a rising senior at Buena Vista University in Storm Lake, Iowa, studying psychology and digital media. They are looking forward to doing event photography and videography for River Keepers, as well as storytelling and learning about nonprofit work. They hope to hone their skills in media creation and learn skills relevant to community engagement, stewardship, and education.

Tomorrow is our Lil Anglers Fishing Clinic & Derby. Join us for a fun evening learning about and fishing the Red River!

Date: Wednesday, June 17

Location: D**e East, Fargo

Please dress for the weather and in shoes you do not mind if they get wet. The forecasts show a chance of rain earlier in the day, so the grass where activities are may be damp. Please bring life jackets for the derby, we will have a few that can be borrowed.

Event Schedule:
*Clinic- 5:30-6:30pm (free food while supplies last!)
*Derby Announcements- 6:30pm
*Derby- 6:45-7:45pm (ages 13 and under)
*Award Ceremony- 7:45—8pm

Learn all about casting, knot tying, fish identification and more at the fishing clinic. All (adults included) are welcome and encouraged to participate! Waste Management will be joining us - check out their truck, activity and giveaways!

Youth participants 13 and younger can compete and try to reel in a big one during the derby!
*It is encouraged to bring fishing poles (but a limited number will be available to borrow).
*Adult supervision is required.
*Fishing license not required for youth 15 and under.
*This is a catch and release program.
*Bait will be supplied

Volunteer at Race the Red Canoe & Kayak Races!

This memorable and fun evening is a great way to help others ENJOY the Red River! We are looking for another amazing volunteer crew to make this race our best one yet.

*Date: Monday, July 13 (backup weather date is August 3)

*Time: All races start at 6:30 pm (various volunteer shifts throughout the day and evening starting at noon)

*Race Start/Finish Line: D**e East South Boat Ramp, Fargo.

*Event Description: Racers choose between 1.5, 3.5, and 6 mile races on the Red River. Racers start at D**e East in Fargo, paddle south to a designated turnaround point, grab a prize, and return down river to the finish. The primary intention of this event is to have FUN and this cannot happen without volunteers to assist.

*Volunteer Shifts: Include tasks like early registration, set up, being an Activity Assistant, traffic control, in and out assistance, handing out food/water, and helping with tying down and transporting our canoe and kayak trailer. See our sign up form or email us for more details.

Unfortunately the downpours of rain yesterday did not have time to soak into the ground before it hit the Red River, so it is moving a bit faster than we like for paddling at the moment. Hopefully it will slow down in the near future.

It was fun to have the Minnesota Now crew experience the Red River with us! Thanks for having us on air.

The Red River is part of the identity of the Fargo-Moorhead region, operating as a natural border separating the cities but also bringing community together. The organization River Keepers helps connect people to the river.
