Veterans Radio The voice of America’s Veterans since 2003!

06/08/2026

Today, we remember Medal of Honor recipient Major General Bruce P. Crandall, who passed away on May 31 at the age of 92. We aired this Medal of Honor reading on Maj. Gen. Crandall during a commercial break on October 13, 2007.

During the Battle of la Drang in Vietnam, then-Major Crandall repeatedly flew his unarmed helicopter into intense enemy fire to deliver ammunition and evacuate wounded soldiers. Despite the danger, he continued flying mission after mission, saving countless lives and inspiring the men on the ground to keep fighting.

This MOH series reading honors the extraordinary courage that earned Crandall our nation's highest award for valor.

Rest easy, sir. Your legacy endures.

A federal appeals court has issued a split decision on the administration's transgender military policy.

The D.C. Circuit ruled that active-duty transgender troops can remain in service for now, calling the discharge policy "arbitrary." However, the Pentagon can still block new enlistments. Secretary Pete Hegseth responded: "See you at SCOTUS."

On a recent Veterans Radio episode, host Jim Fausone spoke with Elliott Rattner, the Navy JAG Corps' first openly transgender man. Elliott shared his story of serving 10 years as a linguist before policy shifts ultimately forced him to leave the Navy.
