The Skinner 529 Solo Division restoration is finally underway! Much like the rest of this instrument, the spaces are extremely tight and nearly impossible for average-size humans to access. After removing and safely storing enough pipes to extract the “primary”, we discovered more than a few blown pneumatic pouches. Now begins the painstaking process of replacing each one with new leather, which are entirely hand-made.

Our first concert yesterday was a huge success, the music was amazing! We are so grateful for everyone who performed at, helped with, and attended this fundraising event. We are also very excited to announce that we raised enough yesterday to begin the restoration of our Solo Division! There is still a long way to go to fully restore this organ, but this will be a great step in the right direction.

We are extremely close to reaching our goal for this event which will enable us to begin the restoration of the Skinner’s solo division and resurrect many of the unique & beautiful voices that Skinner organs are renowned for. Some of the stops in the solo division that would be playable again include the 8’ English Horn, 8’ French Horn, and the regal sounding high-pressure 4’ Tuba Clarion and 8’ Tuba Mirabilis.

The Detroit Masonic Temple is the largest Masonic Temple in the world, and one of its finest jewels may be a nearly 100-year-old pipe organ that hasn't been played in concert in about 20 years.
