Get your child ready for a healthy start to the school year at our Back-to-School Oral Health Fair on Thursday, August 21, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 10 Peterboro St., Detroit!

An HIV Testing Day Event was held on June 30 at CCH in partnership with ViiV Healthcare, W’Sup (Wayne State University’s HIV Prevention/PrEP Navigation Team), Matrix Human Services, Detroit Community Health Connection, Detroit Health Department, and Mahogany Blue, Inc.

From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., HIV/STI testing and services were provided both inside the CCH Storefront and through the Matrix Mobile Unit, which was parked near the corner of Peterboro and Woodward. Boxed lunches were provided, and attendees received educational information about HIV prevention, testing, and available community resources. The team also used the opportunity to connect current CCH members to additional supports, including scheduling appointments for Primary Care and Behavioral Health services.

In total, 51 individuals were served, with many others engaged who inquired about CCH services. We were especially encouraged by the number of young people who came out to be tested and learn more about prevention and care. At Central City Health, we believe great health care happens through teamwork — and Sierra Mosley has experienced that firsthand this summer.

Originally from Detroit, Sierra is pursuing her fourth college degree as she works toward becoming a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner at Saginaw Valley State University. She previously earned degrees in biology and nursing and hopes to specialize in treating individuals with substance use disorders.

During her internship, Sierra has worked alongside psychiatrists, therapists and case managers in our Behavioral Health Department, helping care for patients experiencing co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders while learning how integrated care improves overall health outcomes.

"I've learned that mental health disorders can be in all walks of life. It's great to work alongside people who actually care for their patients and want to see a good prognosis so there are functioning, healthy people in society."
