Public Allies Detroit Public Allies Detroit is partnering with 5 Public Allies locations to launch the PA National Cohort. Our goal is to change the face of leadership in Detroit.

Allies serve in a full time capacity locally, and connect virtually with others across the country for training, support, and co-learning. Public Allies Metro Detroit recognizes homegrown leaders and believes that community change happens from within. We cultivate the talent that already exists in the Detroit region and invest in future leaders dedicated to creating change in their communities. Ready to join the movement? Contact Public Allies Metro Detroit to learn how! At Public Allies Metro Detroit, we believe changing times call for a new kind of leadership. Through our AmeriCorps program, we train young leaders ("Allies") who are young, diverse, and passionate social change makers that support community projects in partnership with hundreds of local nonprofit organizations. Our Allies change their lives and our community through a rigorous AmeriCorps program that combines full-time, paid apprenticeships in nonprofits with intensive skills training, active community-building projects, personalized coaching, and critical reflection. We provide all of this through a nationally recognized approach that’s rooted in a practice of values. Everyone leads… and we walk the talk. Our Allies are ages 18 to 30, and over 91% are people of color, 26% are LGBT, and 72% are college graduates. Allies are from and for our local community, and they share a deep commitment to strengthening Detroit. We’re creating pathways for a stronger community and a lifetime of impact. A majority of Alumni continue a career in the nonprofit and public sectors, and about 95% of Alumni say they would participate again if they could. Partner organizations report that their work with an Ally increases their capacity by up to 30%! Results like these have led the Public Allies program to be recognized as a model for national service.

🎤 Detroit Civic Slam Pitch Competition video submissions are due in just 6 DAYS!

We’re looking for Detroiters with bold, community-driven ideas that address real challenges, strengthen neighborhoods, and create positive change.

💰 $8,000 will be awarded to support community-led projects!

Your idea doesn’t have to be perfect—you just have to be ready to share your vision. Record your pitch, tell us the problem you want to solve, explain your idea, and show us the impact it could have on Detroit.

Public Allies is looking for Detroiters with bold, community-driven ideas for the Civic Slam!

This isn’t just about talking about change—it’s an opportunity to bring your team, build your plan, pitch your idea LIVE, and receive funding to put that idea into action.

🏆 TWO teams will receive up to $8,000 EACH to help bring their civic action projects to life!

We’re looking for ideas that strengthen neighborhoods, empower young people, support families, build economic opportunity, celebrate culture, improve community health, increase civic engagement—or address an issue YOU believe deserves attention.

You don’t have to have everything figured out. Start with the idea. Gather your people. Imagine what’s possible.
