This Pride Month, we celebrate how far we have come – and acknowledge how far we still have to go. And we can’t do that alone.

LGBTQ+ people have fought for decades to achieve progress, even when facing vicious attacks from the White House down to our local leaders. But, as our very own Jay Kaplan, Nancy Katz & Margo Dichtelmiller LGBTQ+ Rights Project Staff Attorney, wrote in his op-ed in Pride Source: “We are far from helpless.”

In this crucial election year, we must elect leaders that will protect the rights of us ALL, including our LGBTQ+ friends and neighbors. Voting is the cornerstone of our democracy – and our democracy works when every eligible voter casts a ballot.

Check out Jay’s op-ed outlining the importance of the LGBTQ+ vote this election cycle and beyond: https://www.aclumich.org/news/opinion-this-year-everything-is-on-the-ballot/

We celebrate Pride by honoring the trans community and the courage it takes to live an authentic life. We will not allow trans attacks to distract or divide us, but will fight to protect and expand trans rights now, and always.

Books help us understand ourselves, connect with others, and imagine a bigger world.

That’s why book bans are so harmful — especially when they target stories by and about LGBTQ+ people.

High school junior Micah Burton shared why representation in books is important and why banning these stories can feel like an attempt to erase LGBTQ+ voices.

This Pride Month, we’re celebrating the freedom to read — and the right of every young person to see themselves reflected in the pages of a book.

No one should be locked away without the chance to seek release before a judge.

A recent federal court ruling says that many immigrants in ICE detention in Michigan (and Tennessee, Kentucky and Ohio) have a right to a bond hearing that could lead to their release and allow them to go home while their immigration case proceeds.

Find out if your loved one is impacted by the ruling, what steps they can take, and how you can help. Or if you are a lawyer, you also can help. Swipe through for important information — and share this on your social channels and with anyone who may need it.

Michigan attorneys: ACLU of Michigan and the Michigan Immigrant Rights Center are looking for volunteer lawyers to help immigrants seek bond hearings and challenge their unlawful detention. Training will be provided.
