Day 2 of the showcased the depth and innovation of Oregon nursery production.

From a behind-the-scenes look at tissue culture and micropropagation at Microplant Nurseries, to peony and cut flower production at Oregon Perennial Company, attendees saw specialized systems and strong family-led operations in action.

At Robinson Nursery, Inc., ongoing trials, lean systems, and innovation highlighted the importance of continuous improvement. Monrovia demonstrated incredible scale, diversity in varieties, and data-driven production. Bailey Nurseries shared insights on breeding, branded programs, and mechanization.

Overall, day 2 highlighted how today’s leading nurseries are combining people, innovation, and operational efficiency to move the industry forward.

It’s been a fantastic first day on the in Oregon! Across all our stops, we saw a strong emphasis on the importance of their teams and enabling innovation.

Mechanization and automation were on full display – from potting machines and custom field equipment, to drones and smart sprayers.

Fun fact: 99% of U.S. hazelnut production takes place here in the Willamette Valley, which is why several of the nurseries we visited use the shells as a top dressing.

AmericanHort is pleased to share that President & CEO Lionel van der Walt has been appointed to the Board of the International Association of Horticultural Producers - AIPH, representing Region IV on behalf of AmericanHort.

The appointment took place during the 78th AIPH Annual Congress in Bari, Italy, where horticulture leaders from around the world gathered to share ideas, strengthen relationships, and discuss opportunities and challenges facing the industry.

This appointment expands AmericanHort’s international engagement and provides another opportunity to strengthen relationships, increase collaboration, and ensure the U.S. horticulture industry has a strong voice in global conversations.

We look forward to the opportunities this creates to learn from others, build stronger partnerships, and bring new ideas and perspectives back to our members and the broader horticulture industry.

A great night of softball for a great cause! 🥎

The 18th annual Congressional Women's Softball Game raised more than $880,000 for charity on September 23. Democratic and Republican members of Congress took on the Bad News Babes in a home run filled game, with the Babes winning 22–16.

AmericanHort sponsors both the Congressional Women’s Softball Game and The Congressional Baseball Game for Charity. Advocacy team members Rachel Pick and Matt Mika are involved in both events - Rachel as a lead volunteer for the softball game and Matt as the head volunteer coach for Republican team in the baseball game.

This week, AmericanHort President & CEO Lionel van der Walt and SVP & Chief Advocacy Officer Matt Mika were in Washington, D.C. meeting with national trade associations, industry groups, advisors, and other stakeholders.

Conversations focused on shared priorities including labor, the Farm Bill, trade, supply chain challenges, and opportunities to strengthen collaboration.

Building strong relationships and identifying areas of common interest are important as AmericanHort works to strengthen its advocacy efforts and advance the interests of the horticulture industry.

Meetings included the National Council of Agricultural Employers, American Farm Bureau Federation, National Association of Landscape Professionals, U.S. Chamber of Commerce, RISE, National Potato Council, and several AmericanHort advisors and partners.
