We support our farmers and our SNAP recipients! Ask Senator Jim Justice to do the same!

OFWV is encouraging folks to call and e-mail Senator Justice and urge him to support a "two-year extension" provision in the Farm Bill. This will give West Virginia two years to fix error rates in SNAP payments.

The WV School Clothing Allowance Program has closed early due to all funds being claimed.

West Virginia's school clothing assistance program isn’t accepting anymore applications due to running out of funds, according to the state Bureau of Family Assistance. The application window was open for a total of seven days.

🚨🚨IMPORTANT information about the School Clothing Allowance Program!! 🚨🚨

The West Virginia Department of Human Services (DoHS), Bureau for Family Assistance will begin accepting school clothing allowance applications on Monday, July 20, 2026, for eligible children enrolled in West Virginia schools. All families must apply and may do so online at www.wvpath.wv.gov or by requesting a paper application be mailed to them by contacting their local DOHS office or by calling 1-877-716-1212. Applications will be accepted until August 15, 2026, or until the available funds are fully allocated, whichever occurs first. To be eligible for approval, applications must reach the local office before the program closes.

The program’s opening had been on hold amid uncertainty over the state’s federal Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) funding. Governor Patrick Morrisey announced that West Virginia has ensured that the funding needed to open the program for families this year will be available.

“We are doing this the right way, and we’re working to make funding streams last. COVID-era reliance on one-time money helped create these challenges, so now we are working to put this program on solid footing. Starting July 20, West Virginia families can apply for the School Clothing Allowance,” said Governor Patrick Morrisey.

Each eligible child will receive a $200 benefit that may be used toward the purchase of appropriate school clothing or piece goods for families who sew clothing for their children.

The monthly income for a family of four for the school clothing program may not exceed $3,483. Verification of income for July 2026 must be submitted with the application.

Income Limits for the School Clothing Allowance Program for 2026: (see below)

School clothing allowance program recipients will receive payments on their electronic benefit transfer (EBT) card. This allows for both online transactions and an increased choice of vendors when purchasing school clothing or piece goods. The EBT card will operate like a debit card and can be used at any retailer who accepts EBT cash transactions. Parents or guardians of children in foster care will receive the school clothing allowance benefit as a check.

Those needing to update their address may do so at www.wvpath.wv.gov or by calling DoHS’s Customer Service Center at 1-877-716-1212.

It's your weekly reminder that YOUR vote is POWERFUL!

Today we're featuring the story of Herbert B. Connelly, who in 1988 lost his Primary election for re-election to the Governor's Council of Massachusetts by a single vote. To make matters worse, it was his own! He showed up to his polling place a few minutes after closing time and was unable to cast his vote, which would have created a tie, and potentially led to his re-election. Connelly had served for nearly 20 years.

His opponent, Robert B. Kennedy, won the November General election and held the seat for four years.

The PIT survey in 44 of West Virginia's counties is managed by the West Virginia Coalition to End Homelessness. Of those 44 counties, the PIT survey found these counties with the highest number of individuals without homes per 1,000 residents:

1.) Webster County: 4.89 individuals per 1,000 residents
2.) Wood County: 2.81 individuals per 1,000 residents
3.) McDowell County: 1.95 individuals per 1,000 residents
4.) Nicholas County with 1.93 individuals per 1,000 residents
5.) Raleigh County with 1.73 individuals per 1,000 residents

*Please note, many experts in the field believe the counts produced by the PIT survey are actually 2 to 10 times higher. In spite of the stellar work done by volunteers and professionals, there are barriers to accurate reporting and, after all, it is one "point in time" in a calendar year.

1.) Wood County with 232 individuals
2.) Berkeley County with 160 individuals
3.) Raleigh County with 124 individuals
4.) Monongalia County with 122 individuals
5.) Marion County with 78 individuals
