Prepare a musical selection and bring sheet music for Guild accompanist, if not singing from score.
Scripts are provided for reading auditions. Wear appropriate shoes and clothes for dance (musical theatre styles) and be prompt since combinations are taught.

Ages 7-70s; Large Cast; 7 young roles for girls; Lots of adult singing and acting roles; Many featured adults can play additional characters; Fun production with a great message
Annie – spunky, big voiced, lives in the orphanage, confident, charming, plays age 11, alto belter (A-G5)
Oliver Warbucks – warm-hearted, wealthy and stiff collared, shaved headed, adopts Annie for the holidays; high baritone/tenor, 40-60s, (B3-Gb5)
Miss Hannigan – character actress/singer, mean spirited drunk, runs the orphanage; mezzo belter (A3-F5)
Grace Farrell – faithful assistant to Warbucks, plays 20s-30s, attractive, soprano (Bb3-G5)
Orphans – 6 gritty, neglected, vulnerable & lovable girls in the orphanage with Annie; Molly (youngest), Pepper, Duffy, July, Tessie, and Kate (plays age 7) who sing and dance, play ages 6-13
Rooster – Miss Hannigan’s no-good brother, wiry type, sleazy con-man, dance ability, (B3-G5)
Lily – Rooster’s bimbo girlfriend who is out for a quick buck, dance ability, (B3-G5)
Bert Healy – ultimate radio personality, charming singer (E4-G5)
Roosevelt – 32nd President of the United States and a friend of Warbucks, wheel chair bound; (Eb3-F4)
Warbucks Servants – Drake, Mrs. Greer, Mrs. Pugh, Cecille, Annette; various ages; featured actor/singers
Roosevelt Cabinet – Louis Howe, Harold Ickes, Henry Morganthau, Cordell Hull, Francis Perkins

“Star to Be” – featured female soloist in the song “NYC”
Boylen Sisters – Bonnie, Connie, Ronnie; three harmonizing girls who sing on Bert Healey’s radio show, “Hour of Smiles”; Also on the radio hour are actors who play Fred McCracken (radio personality), Jimmy Johnson (wacky radio personality), sound effects man, etc.

The Charleston Light Opera Guild, The Official Musical Theatre of West Virginia, and the Clay Center for the Arts and Sciences West Virginia will co-present the beloved musical “Annie” on October 30, 31, November 1, and 6 - 8, 2026 at the Clay Center. The musical, based on the newspaper comic strip “Little Orphan Annie”, originated as a musical on Broadway in 1977 and won seven Tony Awards. The bright tuneful score by Charles Strouse and Martin Charnin with a book by Thomas Meehan has become a part of our nation’s national heritage. “Tomorrow”, “You’re Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile”, “It’s a Hardknock Life”, “NYC”, “Little Girls” and “Easy Street”, have entertained countless Broadway, national tours, a movie version, a television remake, international productions and community theater audiences. “Annie” delivers a message about never giving up hope and is a perfect family show. The Charleston Light Opera Guild’s last production of this classic was a Clay Center co-production in 2011.
