An Amazing day at Community Boating Inc. Boston, MA with B Local Boston and Rebecca McGee Tuck, a marine debris artist based in Cape Cod.

Together, we cleaned an area along the banks of the Charles River and activated Tuck's mandala piece as a way to sort and really look at the debris collected.

We pulled about 80 pounds of debris from the riverbank—mostly food wrappers, plastic bottles, and the small, everyday things that can end up in our waterways.

Last week we had the pleasure of hosting Sail and Explore Association aboard American Promise to conduct sampling in NOAA's Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary

🔬 The expedition aims to generate one of the most detailed assessments to date of local microplastic pollution, with a focus on particles down to 0.05 mm, a size class rarely captured in traditional ocean monitoring. This high-resolution surface sampling intends to understand the distribution, concentration, and ecological implications of these ultra‑small particles in one of the most biologically significant marine areas in the U.S.

🌊 After completing the expedition, we presented alongside Roman Lehner from Sail & Explore Association at Swissnex Boston about our mutual efforts to monitor microplastics

💬 We had a wonderful discussion moderated by climate journalist Daniel Ackerman post-presentation. This event brought together scientists, conservationists, and the community to dive deeper into microplastics in local waters and why it matters.

We look forward to a long-term monitoring project, and if anyone is interested in learning more, reach out!

We are excited to make our way down to Provincetown, MA next week for “Inspired by the Sea” - a 3-day celebration of ocean conservation, collaborative research, and art

The festivities include a shoreline cleanup, a seal walk, a marine debris trash tally, short-film screenings, a science fair, marine debris art workshops and exhibits, and a sunset sail with resident vessels.
