Today, the U.S. Supreme Court halted an attempt to restrict access to mifepristone, a drug commonly used in medication abortion and in miscarriage care. This case was not rooted in science or medicine and should never have gotten as far as it did. The bottom line is that despite the confusing headlines, you can still access a medication abortion if you need one.

On Friday, we saw nationwide restrictions on abortion medication after a 5th Circuit Court decision, and this Monday, the Supreme Court issued a temporary pause on the decision. Even though we have constitutional protections in Vermont, these decisions still impact us here, and abortion was restricted over the weekend. This SCOTUS pause is in effect until May 11th, we will be posting updates as this unfolds, and letting Vermonters know how this might impact our state.

On Monday morning, the U.S. Supreme Court paused the 5th Circuit’s ruling in Louisiana et al. v. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). While mifepristone access returns to where it was on Friday morning, the whiplash and chaos that patients and providers are navigating has already had real consequences for real peoples’ lives and futures. The threats to abortion care and rights remain — even in states where abortion is legal and protected. Patients should visit www.ppnne.org to make an appointment.
