Walk into the darkest sky of the month with the Trustees Boston Resilience team for an easy evening along the Neponset River Greenway.
August 12 brings a New Moon and a double feature. Earlier that day, a partial solar eclipse crosses the Northeast — and after dark, the Perseid meteor shower reaches its peak. With no moonlight to compete, this is the best stargazing night of the summer.
Walk starts at 7:30pm, sunset is at 7:51pm, and we’ll be out until 8:30pm. Peak meteor activity comes later in the night, so bring a blanket if you want to stay and watch after the walk.
Dress comfortably, wear good walking shoes, and don’t forget your water bottle!

The Full Sturgeon Moon rises just as we set out — and later that night it slips into Earth’s shadow for a partial lunar eclipse, reaching its deepest point at 12:12AM. Nearly the whole moon will be covered, often taking on a coppery red glow.
Walk starts at 7:30pm, sunset is at 7:29pm, and we’ll be out until 8:30pm.
