We are deeply saddened by the death of Tracy Kidder. Our heartfelt sympathies go out to his family, friends, and all who were touched by his extraordinary life and work. Tracy was a wonderful, humane, passionate, and articulate person who brought compassion to every story he told. We were so fortunate to experience that firsthand at our Solas event in December. His words, generosity, and presence left a lasting impression on our community. His legacy will continue to inspire. To reflect on what he shared with our community, we invite you to watch his Solas remarks here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1-HisSaqkEbPxkdB6nQjlqMrwaXxawfZK/view

One of our Staff Attorneys, Julian Zuzarte, has been featured in an article about Saint Joseph's University alums who are legal advocates for the immigrant community. Julian, as part of our Immigrant Legal Services team, is providing critical legal services to the immigrant community at a time when policy is becoming more complex and enforcement is intensifying. Your support allows us to continue providing legal guidance to immigrant families.

As the Trump administration challenges the Constitutional right to birthright citizenship in the Supreme Court with Trump v. Barbara, Rian stands with the immigrant community. We are grateful to our long-time cherished partner, The Charitable Irish Society, for joining us in this mission. The Society provides critical financial support to some of our clients, regardless of where they are from. Now, the Society is expanding its activities by filing an amicus curiae (friend of the Court) brief with the U.S. Supreme Court in the case of Trump vs. Barbara, opposing the Trump administration’s attempt to end the Constitutional right to birthright citizenship. You can find a link to their brief here: https://www.charitableirishsociety.org/page-1423166

At a time when our immigrant neighbors need support more than ever, Boston is stepping up. Rian is proud to be part of this work through our partnership with Mayor's Office for Immigrant Advancement - Boston in expanding legal access to immigrants in Boston through our Boston Public Library clinics. We’re thankful to the City for mobilizing partners across Boston, and to The Boston Foundation, United Way of Massachusetts Bay, and Barr Foundation for creating new opportunities for investment in immigrant communities at a critical time.

On St. Patrick's Day at Rian, we are taking time to reflect on the sacrifices and challenges that Irish immigrants endured as they worked to build a life in the United States. Rian's connection to our Irish heritage reaffirms our commitment to immigrants today from all countries of origin. These newcomers have similar stories of sacrifice in the search for opportunity. At Rian, we honor the legacy of Irish immigrants by welcoming new immigrants to Boston and supporting their journey with our immigration legal services, counseling, and support services. Today, this work matters more than ever. Happy St. Patrick’s Day from all of us at Rian!

Our RSS team is excited to announce that we are launching a NEW remote weekly support group for women-identified individuals who speak Spanish as a first language. You will be able to share the positive things going on in your life as well as the difficulties, to hear what others are going through, receive support, and to provide support in return. You’ll also have the opportunity to learn new skills for managing stress. We plan to start this group in February and the specific schedule will be determined based on the availability of interested participants. Please contact Victoria at [email protected] to register.

We are writing to share significant news regarding the future of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haitians. Yesterday, in what the New York Times called a “scathing opinion,” Judge Ana C. Reyes of the Federal District Court in Washington, D.C., paused the current administration’s efforts to terminate TPS for Haitians. TPS for Haiti was set to expire at the end of the day today, and this decision in the U.S. District Court allows TPS to continue for Haiti. This is a temporary but vital victory for the Haitian community.

This decision provides time and much-needed relief for Haitians who have been facing job loss, destabilization, and fear. Thousands of Haitians in Massachusetts will be able to continue working and living without being subject to deportation.

However, this decision is a temporary block to the current administration’s plan to terminate TPS for Haiti. We must remain vigilant and committed in our fight for justice as the administration is expected to appeal this decision and continues to threaten TPS for Haitians.

We will continue to stand with the Haitian community and work towards justice and a permanent solution for Haitian TPS holders. As many members of the community face job loss, emotional distress, and instability, we are committed to continuing to provide legal services as well as resource and support services for the Haitian community.

We appreciate your involvement and support as we continue to fight for a long-term solution. If you or someone you know is affected by this change and needs legal assistance or support services, please contact our immigration legal services team for a consultation: please call 617-542-7654 or visit https://www.riancenter.org/consultations/ for more information.
