Scheduled for euthanasia yesterday. Safe with Hound Rescue today! Please help us continue this miraculous year of rescues!

Bart was a stray at a small town animal control near the border scheduled for euthanasia yesterday because the community does not have a shelter.

Today, thanks to some South Texas angels who helped us, Bart is safe with a foster and loving every minute of his miracle second chance!

This year we have rescued a total of 89 dogs! At this time last year, we had only rescued 69 dogs. That is an amazing increase of 20 dogs, which we are celebrating!

However, our funding overall is not on track to keep up with the demand.

We have an amazing donor who has agreed to fund Bart’s considerable vet expenses, but we don’t know how many more we can bring in given that our pace is exceeding our budget.

If we can get the funding, we have willing fosters, immense need, and will be on pace to have one of our best years ever!

🐾 Volunteer Spotlight: Gabby Boor

Gabby’s journey with Hound Rescue began with a very special beagle named Wh***ey. She had loved him for nearly 11 years, since he was just a puppy, and after losing her soul dog, she wanted to do something meaningful in his memory. She had donated to beagle rescues for years, but when she discovered there was a hound rescue right here in Austin, she knew she wanted to do more. Fostering became a way to honor Wh***ey by giving other dogs the love, care, and second chances they deserve.

Her favorite part of volunteering is watching a dog begin to feel safe. Seeing a scared, uncertain hound learn to trust, get comfortable, and realize they are loved reminds her just how much of a difference fostering can make.

Then came Sophie. Hound Rescue found Sophie as a stray in Kerrville when she was just a puppy, and Gabby became her foster. Sophie arrived scared and unsure of everything, but it didn’t take long for the family to fall in love. What started as fostering quickly became a foster fail, and Sophie was officially home. Today, she’s grown in confidence and has an 11-year-old beagle big brother named Buddy.

Her advice to anyone considering fostering? Just do it! She understands the fear of wanting to keep every dog—she’s clearly been there. 😂 But seeing a foster leave for a family who will love them forever brings a happiness that’s hard to replace. Knowing you played a part in giving them that second chance just makes you want to do it again.

Outside of rescue, Gabby loves to travel. She has visited 17 countries and has an ambitious goal: to eventually visit every country in the world.

We’re grateful that Gabby chose to turn the love she had for Wh***ey into something that continues to give other hounds a chance. His legacy lives on in Sophie and every dog who gets a safe place to land because Gabby decided to foster. ❤️

Meet Beans! This handsome 4-year-old, 32-pound Bluetick Beagle is officially ready to find his forever home!

Beans is a total sweetheart who loves his people. He is completely housebroken, uses a doggie door, and is a perfect gentleman all around the house. He happily goes into his crate when you leave, but at night, his favorite spot is curled up under the covers in bed with you!

More About Beans:
🗣️ Personality: Gets along with other dogs and has that trademark Beagle howl
🏡 House Manners: Completely housebroken and confidently uses a doggie door
💤 Bedtime: Happily crates when you leave, but at night he wants to be under the covers with you
❤️ Cuddle Bug: Just wants to curl up in your lap to close out the evening and is great around kids of all ages
🚙 Car Rider: Amazing in the car and settles down right away - he’d be a great buddy for road trips

These sweet 4-year-old beagles joined Hound Rescue today after an unexpected change in their lives. They were deeply loved in their previous home, and now they’re getting the chance to begin a beautiful new chapter together. 🥹

Next stop? A wonderful foster-to-adopt home where we hope their story gets its happily ever after! 🏡❤️

Incoming! Meet Churro and Waffles! Austin TX 🐾 ❤️❤️

These brothers are around 4 months and 20 pounds of absolute joy! Their mama is a basset hound who is safe with another rescue.

We can’t say enough of about these boys. Everyone who meets them falls in love - they are as sweet as their names 🥹

The boys have a slightly plush coat, plus all the things we love about bassets - stompy feet, long ears, long bodies, shorter legs, and white tipped tails!

They are getting along great with the other dogs at their foster home. They are using the doggy door and sleeping fine in their crate.

Welcome home ladies!!!

All of these lovely girls were adopted this week! A huge thank you to their adopters, fosters, and transporters.

We are also in gratitude to our donors who make these miracles possible.

Three of these girls were facing euthanasia due to shelter overcrowding and one was abandoned at an entirely outside shelter.

From strays at the shelter, to cherished, safe, and beloved with families of their own. This is why we rescue! ❤️

Best update ever: Francis & Issy have found a foster-to-adopt home! They get to stay together. ❤️🧡💛

🚨 URGENT FOSTER NEEDED — STARTING FRIDAY! 🚨 📍AUSTIN, TX

We are urgently looking for a cat-free and chicken-free foster home for these two gorgeous 4-year-old beagles, Frances and Isla (Issy). 🐶🐶

Sadly, their owner passed away, and their current caretaker has cats. Francis and Issy think the cats are way too exciting, which has become stressful for everyone involved.

They need a committed foster home beginning this Friday after their vet appointment. If you’re interested in foster-to-adopt, we would also love to hear from you!

🐾 Volunteer Spotlight: Amanda

Amanda’s love for hounds started early—she grew up with a pack of beagles who, in her words, basically ran the house. Wanting to help animals and realizing that working from home made fostering a great fit, she found Hound Rescue, reached out, and welcomed her first foster. She says it’s been one of the best decisions she’s ever made.

Her favorite part of fostering is watching each dog transform. Some arrive scared and unsure, but little by little, they relax, learn to trust, and start being dogs again. Watching their personalities emerge and knowing she helped them feel safe and loved while waiting for their forever homes is what makes it so special.

And then there was Dove. When Dove arrived, she was incredibly scared and shy and barely wanted to go outside. Today, she loves being outdoors chasing rats and squirrels. Amanda hadn’t planned on adopting a dog herself and was happy fostering and sending pups on to their new families—until someone wanted to adopt Dove. Her immediate reaction was, “Nope, she’s mine.” Dove is now her little soul dog, and Amanda can’t imagine life without her.

Her advice to anyone considering fostering or volunteering? If you can, do it. It’s incredibly rewarding to know you played even a small part in helping an animal find a better life. Amanda also credits those who run Hound Rescue, whose time, energy, and heart inspire her and make her feel lucky to be part of the team.

Outside of rescue, Amanda loves interior design and decorating. She’s often helping friends and family choose furniture, decorate rooms, or completely rework a space. It seems fitting that someone who loves transforming spaces also has a gift for making hounds feel at home.

We’re grateful for Amanda and the safe place she gives our hounds to land. Sometimes fostering means preparing a dog for their forever family—and sometimes, like Dove, they discover they were already home.

Beans is a handsome, sweet 4-year-old bluetick beagle coming soon to our rescue, and we’re looking for a great place for him to land. Might you and your family be the ones?

Beans is dog and kid-friendly, but needs a home without cats or chickens. There’s a lot to love about Beans and we can’t wait for you to get to know him!

Happy National Black Dog Day!
Meet Vivi! Austin TX 🐾

Vivi was a favorite of the shelter volunteers, and we understand why!

When you meet her, Vivi’s joy is contagious! She is such a happy, polite, and friendly girl 🥹

The shelter listed her as a Boston Terrier / Beagle mix. We say she’s an Oreo hound!

We initially thought she was a little older, but our vet believes she is around 5 years old.

Vivi is house trained and loves to play but has a mellow and easy going energy. She prefers not to be crated but does fine in the house if you leave her.

Vivi’s joy is all the more remarkable when you hear her story. Vivi came into the shelter as a stray, but it was clear that she had previously been living in a home.

Shelter staff believed she had been dumped, possibly because she needed medical care.

When she arrived at Hound Rescue, Vivi had some swelling in her feet which we have learned was caused by an autoimmune arthritis.

After just a few days on inexpensive medication, the swelling is gone. Vivi is feeling great, and we are anticipating she will live a full and healthy life.

Now that she is feeling better, this
girl is ready for her second act! She truly deserves her happy new beginning, and we are so excited for her to find her forever family.
