WHO ARE WE? Lannaya Drum & Dance is an award-winning, Black-led 501c(3) nonprofit performing arts organization founded in 2000 in Austin, Texas. Lannaya is a vibrant community of seasoned and emerging dancers, drummers, and musicians passionate about preserving and sharing the rich traditions of West African music and dance. Our missi
on is to expose and educate audiences to authentic and progressive interpretations of drum and dance of the African diaspora. We’re dedicated to honoring and celebrating West African culture through the powerful rhythms of drum and dance, while making a meaningful impact on the cultural landscape of Austin, TX. Lannaya fosters connection, team building, and cultural awareness through dynamic performances and education. We’ve offered authentic interpretations of West African drum and dance to diverse audiences, including corporations, festivals, special events, and K-12 students in Austin ISD, Eanes ISD, Taylor ISD, Round Top-Carmine ISD, Schulenburg ISD, and Del Valle ISD. Since 2008, we've performed statewide for Texans in their own communities, and our quality has been validated since 2008 by the Texas Commission on the Arts, and the City of Austin Cultural Arts Division, and since 2023 by Humanities Texas, the state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities. This project is supported in part by the City of Austin Economic Development Department, and in part by the National Endowment for the Arts.
