Austin School of Film

Austin School of Film We are committed to helping people bring their visions to life by providing an inclusive space to grow, learn, create, and present their work.

We empower, support, and educate emerging artists of all ages as active participants in shaping our culture, and engage communities to rethink the way we view film, art and technology. Motion Media Arts Center is a 501c(3) non-profit independent film, art, and technology center that supports every aspect of production from creation to presentation. Founded in 2002 with the merging of two award-win

ning arts & film institutions (Austin Cinemaker Co-op & Center for Young Cinema) MMAC has been globally recognized for its innovative media arts programming for nearly two decades. Our goal is to empower, support, and educate emerging artists of all ages as active participants in shaping our culture, and engage communities to rethink the way we view film, art and technology. We seek to reduce inequality in all of its forms, and create opportunities & community through breaking borders and barriers within film & creative media. Our programs include—

Austin School of Film— a year-round educational program providing classes and workshops in art, film, and creative technology for all ages taught & developed by our staff & faculty of industry filmmakers and independent artists. PPST...we also founded & operate Cinemaker Space— Austin’s first and only non-profit MAKE/WORK co-working + venue hybrid, designed as an alternative to traditional co-working spaces for artists, media makers, and all creatives alike. We provide alternative ways to work, learn, create, and consume the arts in the digital era.

⭑ Talent directory (n.) > a public invitation to find your next collaborator ⭑

On May 22, our Artist Access Program Talent Directory opens to the public ~ a digital database of the working artists we’ve been investing in through our six month artist-led workforce program, centering sustainability in arts + film.

It’s a directory, yes. But it’s also a statement.
Austin has the deep bench of talent. We just made it findable.

⭑ Producers, agencies, brands > bookmark it.
⭑ Local artists > apply July 1 for the next round.
⭑ Everyone else > share it forward.

✺ FILM & FRIENDS IS BACK THIS SUMMER ✺

Austin School of Film’s bi-annual screening series returns to East Austin’s favorite underground cinema club where indie film is always celebrated aka Hyperreal Film Club!

Film & Friends believes film is more than content - it’s culture. This is our lil (BIG) slice of Austin ~ a space for filmmakers making work (sometimes for the first time) where their process matters and experimentation is welcome.

Expect a wild ride with work spanning narratives, documentaries, and music video works.

Tickets open early June. ✦

Two weeks into chemo, I stepped into a CINEMAKER studio with Chie, Tiffany, Zachariah, and Natalie to document a moment I’ll never forget. Born and raised in East Austin, I care deeply about protecting the spaces where artists can still show up as themselves.

We’re just shy of 50% of our year-end goal which, in nonprofit math, means we’re somehow doing great and sweating all at once.

HOWEVER, nonprofits like ours DO matter because without real working artists, Austin is just heat, traffic, and expensive tacos.

Enjoy these photos, they mean so much to me. Leading this organization means so much to me! Endless thanks to everyone involved.

And if you’re wondering where to find the full photo feature and ways to give… don’t worry. I’ll never tell.

This past September, our Executive Director, Faiza Kracheni, was diagnosed with cancer.

Even as she began chemotherapy, she continued running our nonprofit programs, teaching, advocating, and pushing forward the work that keeps Austin’s independent film & media arts community alive.

This November, you’ll have three chances to meet her and learn more about our mission, our work, and why we do what we do through completely free public film & media arts events.

💗Link the link in bio for full blog post & all event details.

✨Photos: Faiza Kracheni’s head-shaving moment with Tiffany Hunter (Owner, ), documented by Chie Endo of , CINEMAKER member, artist, and supporter of our nonprofit’s mission. The second photo will be on display at 11/20 event along with a never before seen portrait of Faiza.
