Texas Unitarian Universalist Justice Ministry

Texas Unitarian Universalist Justice Ministry TXUUJM: a Unitarian Universalist action network, bending Texas toward justice with 40+ congregations! We are called to educate and organize for justice.

The Texas Unitarian Universalist Justice Ministry (TXUUJM) is a statewide justice ministry that raises the voice of Unitarian Universalist values in the public arena and seeks to have those values enacted into legislation and promulgated in public policy. Guided by Unitarian Universalist principles, TXUUJM will educate and organize member congregations, and partner with sympathetic organizations,

in order to advocate for public policies that:

- Uphold the worth and dignity of every person;
- Further justice, equity, and compassion in human relations;
- Ensure the use of the democratic process;
- Protect religious freedom; and,
- Promote respect for the interdependent web of all existence. Our faith calls us to change policies and structures that inhibit human development and harm the environment and communities. Our UU voice has been missing on issues such as women’s reproductive health rights, LGBT rights, immigration, education financing, evolution, and many other issues that are considered by the Texas Legislature and its committees. It’s time for Unitarian Universalists to speak out based on our liberal religious viewpoints. TXUUJM will allow our congregations to provide a vehicle for the members of our association to make a difference in our state, and to help those learning about Unitarian Universalism see the values for which we stand.

TODAY: Demand an End to Family Detention!

We are taking action! Right now, as part of the National Day of Action, advocates in D.C. and across the nation are delivering thousands of paper dolls to Congressional offices. Here in Austin, our delegations are currently at the offices of Reps. McCaul, Roy, Doggett, and Casar with one message: Free Families, end child detention, and zero funding for ICE.

You can help us from anywhere:
Take Action Now: Use the Free Families online action tool to call and email your reps today. Tell them to end family detention.
https://childrensdefense.quorum.us/campaign/146990/

Join the Mobilization: Download our Mobilization Toolkit to get the paper dolls template.
and Craft your own paper dolls, take a photo tagging your elected officials, and post it to social media. Make them listen! https://docs.google.com/document/d/1pzmB81Ky1nE7806-pF8P8oL4vzgV0C2yx4S3171xC0E/edit?usp=drivesdk

Join the Vigil (Austin): If you are in town, join us 7pm tonight at the Texas Capitol South Steps for our Free Families Vigil.

We are acting in solidarity with thousands across the nation. Together, we will end family detention.
