The 2026 General Election Debates are underway today, Monday, October 12, as part of the Atlanta Press Club Loudermilk-Young Debate Series.

Today’s debates include Lieutenant Governor, Attorney General, Secretary of State, Public Service Commission Districts 3 & 5, and Governor, with the Governor’s debate beginning at 8:00 PM.

Georgia ACT encourages voters across the state to get informed, hear directly from the candidates, and make a plan to vote. Early voting begins Tuesday, October 13!

🏠 HOUSING OPPORTUNITY ALERT: AUGUSTA HOUSING AUTHORITY WAITING LISTS OPEN TODAY!

News You Can Use from Georgia ACT! The Augusta Housing Authority has announced that two housing waiting lists open TODAY, Monday, October 12, 2026, at 9:00 AM.

Project Based Voucher Program – The Villages at Meadowbrook
The Augusta Housing Authority will accept preliminary applications for 47 Project Based Voucher units, including 1-, 2-, and 3-bedroom homes.

Elderly Conventional Public Housing
Applications are also being accepted for 2-bedroom elderly public housing units only. To qualify for these elderly units, all family members must be at least 50 years old.

October 12, 2026 at 9:00 AM through January 31, 2027 at 5:00 PM

💙 Georgia ACT Stands With Douglas & Coffee County 💚

Our hearts are heavy as we stand with the City of Douglas, Coffee County, and the family and community impacted by this heartbreaking tragedy.

According to WALB, five adults lost their lives Friday night in Douglas. We extend our deepest condolences to their loved ones, neighbors, friends, and everyone in the Douglas and Coffee County community who is grieving this tremendous loss.

Douglas holds a special place in the Georgia ACT family. The City of Douglas was one of our featured cities at the 2025 Georgia ACT Fall Affordable Housing Conference, where we had the privilege of highlighting the community and its leadership.

Today, we ask our members, partners, and friends across Georgia to join us in keeping the family and the entire Douglas and Coffee County community in your thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time.

🏠 FROM HOMELESSNESS TO HOPE: WHY THIS FIGHT IS PERSONAL FOR GEORGIA ACT

For Georgia ACT, World Homeless Day is more than an awareness day. It is personal.

This photo captures our President & CEO, Dr. Bambie Hayes-Brown, with her children in their new public housing home after experiencing homelessness in 2013. It is a powerful reminder that behind every statistic is a person, a family, a story, and a future worth fighting for.

On World Homeless Day, Georgia ACT stands with every Georgian experiencing homelessness or housing instability. We believe everyone deserves more than temporary shelter. They deserve the dignity, stability, safety, and opportunity that come with having a place to call home.

Dr. Hayes-Brown brings her own lived experience to this work every day, strengthening Georgia ACT’s commitment to advocating for policies, resources, and investments that help move families from housing insecurity to housing stability.
