Giving season doesn't have to feel like a countdown to panic.

Joanna Hogan, founder of Inspire Generosity, recently shared in our recent webinar that it's hard to be curious and anxious at the same time. When fundraisers walk into a meeting worried about themselves, that anxiety tends to show, and it can make the whole conversation feel stiff.

The fix starts with one simple question: what does this person want to accomplish with their money that feels meaningful to them? Asking that shifts the focus away from your own nerves and onto the relationship in front of you. ๐Ÿค

Curiosity isn't the same as showing up unannounced, though. Being upfront about the purpose of a meeting, and letting the other person choose the format that works for them, builds the kind of trust that makes future conversations easier.

Weโ€™re so honored to share that our CEO and Founder, Karen Houghton, shared her insights on Association of Fundraising Professionalsโ€™ blog on why nonprofit financial health takes more than passion. ๐Ÿ’ก

In her piece, Karen introduced the RISE Framework, a self-assessment tool covering how organizations can raise non-cash gifts like stock and crypto, invest idle cash with intention, steward resources through clear policies, and endow for long-term sustainability. She encouraged nonprofit leaders to ask themselves where their organization may have been leaving opportunity on the table, and how a more strategic approach to money management could help missions last for generations. ๐Ÿ™Œ

Thank you to AFP for the opportunity to share this perspective with your community!

Trust is the foundation of this sector. ๐Ÿค

When a fintech platform stumbles, nonprofits everywhere start asking the same questions.

Where is our money? Who controls it? What happens if our provider fails?

Those aren't overreactions.

They're good governance.
Every dollar entrusted to your nonprofit is a promise.

Stewardship means knowing exactly how your funds are sourced, held, and protected. ๐Ÿ”’

We see you. ๐Ÿ‘€

If your nonprofit's operating cash is just sitting in a standard checking account, it's probably earning next to nothing while inflation quietly chips away at it.

The fix doesn't have to mean risk or locking up funds you might need. Nonprofits can typically move idle cash into FDIC-insured cash sweep accounts, money market funds, or short-term treasuries designed to keep funds liquid while working a little harder for you.

Infinite Giving helps nonprofits set up exactly this kind of cash management, so your reserves aren't just sitting there.

Board members often say they'll do anything except fundraising. It makes sense when you look at how fundraising has traditionally been taught: give or get, sponsor a table, share your contact list. No wonder it feels icky. ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

Weโ€™re honored to have Joanna Hogan as a guest writer on our blog, sharing her piece, "Before You Ask Your Board to Fundraise, Do This Instead."

Instead of asking who could give, she suggests asking who would love this. That small shift changes everything.

Trust is often the missing piece. Board members hesitate to make introductions because they worry about what happens next.
One of the most powerful lines from the post: "I want to be your easiest no." That kind of approach removes pressure and makes room for real connection. ๐Ÿค

Getting to know your board members beyond the numbers they can give may be the real key to sustainable, joyful fundraising.

Scaling generosity is rarely a solo effort, and your board may be one of the most valuable resources your nonprofit has. ๐Ÿ’ก

So where does meaningful board involvement begin? In many cases, it starts with setting clear expectations.

Board members often hesitate around fundraising because no one has defined what it actually involves. When leaders explain what fundraising is and what it isn't, the ask can feel far less intimidating. From there, consider spelling out the specific ways you hope each board member will participate. ๐Ÿค

A big thank you to Barbara O'Reilly, CFRE from Windmill Hill Consulting for joining us for this webinar and sharing her insight on engaging boards in generosity.

Should your nonprofit give donors gifts? ๐ŸŽ

Some donors love a thank you gift. A branded mug, a tote bag, or a small keepsake can make a contribution feel more personal and memorable. For others, that same gift can feel like a missed opportunity. They'd rather see their dollars go straight to your mission.

On our latest webinar, guest Joanna Hogan shared a simple rule of thumb: know your donors. When you understand what motivates someone to give, you'll know whether a physical gift will strengthen that relationship or quietly undermine it.

The takeaway isn't "always" or "never." It's "it depends," and the answer lives in your donor data.

Internal controls are the financial policies and procedures your nonprofit puts in place to manage money responsibly, ethically, and in compliance with the law.

They guide every financial activity, from accepting donations to spending funds to keeping accurate records, all while supporting your mission and following IRS requirements.

It helps to think of internal controls as guardrails rather than red tape. Instead of slowing your organization down, they protect it, giving your nonprofit the structure and confidence needed to grow its finances and work toward true sustainability. ๐ŸŒฑ

Stock gifts are one of the most generous ways donors can give, often far larger than a typical cash donation. But the process has traditionally left everyone in the dark. Donors wonder if they completed everything correctly. Nonprofit staff wonder where the gift even came from. ๐Ÿ˜…

That is the gap our new Stock Donation Tracker was built to close. Donors get a self-service hub to track their pledge, download updated transfer instructions, and loop in their financial advisor with a click. Nonprofits spend less time chasing paperwork and more time building relationships with the people who make their mission possible. ๐Ÿค

Because when we remove complexity, we do not just improve technology. We unlock more generosity.

Fundraising gets your mission off the ground. Sustaining it for the long haul takes strategy, financial confidence, and donor relationships built to last.

On September 17th at 2 PM ET, Karen Houghton and Barbara O'Reilly, CFRE from Windmill Consulting will unpack how these three pieces come together to help nonprofits scale generosity. ๐ŸŽ™๏ธ

Here's what you'll walk away with:
โœ… A clearer path for donors to reach their philanthropic goals
โœ… The confidence to think bigger about your organization's future
โœ… A mindset shift from scarcity to sustainability

Scaling generosity isn't only about raising more money. It's about creating more impact. ๐Ÿ’ก
