What a spectacular June Chapter Meeting! Our panelists Rita Breen with Power, Adrienne Carden with , and Reina J. Jones with updated us on "The State of Corporate Giving" with moderator Yvonne Whitaker.

The big takeaways:

⭐️ Trust, relationships, and true partnership are critical

⭐️ Know the pillars before the meeting so it doesn’t waste time - show what your org can do to help the company move the needle on those pillars.

⭐️ Come with recommendations for solutions to solve problems - creativity and innovation does have a place here.

⭐️Share what your true needs are. Don’t expect the company to know what’s best to fund for YOUR mission.

⭐️Collaboration stands out

It was a packed room for today's chapter meeting and Meet the Funders panel. Our panelists - Carrie Conway (Robert W. Woodruff Foundation), Hannah Jones (Goizueta Foundation), Anna Grace Whitehead (J. Bullow Campbell Foundation), and Jon Ingram (Westside Future Fund) - offered a funder's perspective on foundation giving, capital campaigns, and relationship-building in today’s evolving nonprofit landscape.

A few key takeaways from today's panel:
• It’s never too early to start conversations. Relationships need runway before the ask.
• Funders want to be accessible and collaborative (it's literally their mission) and try to be responsive to changing community needs while still staying true to their organization's intent.
• Don't be afraid to reach out to a funder. There’s value even in discovering a lack of alignment. It can become a meaningful pivot point for a fundraiser.
• Foundation staff are the bridge between the work that's happening on the ground and the work the board wants to do.
• Strong partnerships are built by “rowing alongside the people doing the work.”

The conversation also highlighted the importance of ongoing relationship-building, thoughtful engagement, and the role funders can play in supporting mission-driven organizations beyond a single grant cycle.

We are grateful for such an honest and thoughtful discussion with leaders committed to strengthening our nonprofit community. Special thanks to MacKensie Brandt (Coxe Curry & Associates) for moderating and to Atlanta Tech Village for hosting our monthly meeting.

Mark your calendars for our June chapter meeting on June 16 featuring another Meet the Funder panel focused on corporate funders.

AFP Greater Atlanta — let's get on the ICON stage!

Proposals for AFP ICON 2027 in Baltimore (April 11–13) are due May 18th. Our members who've presented shared their best tips:

✨ Start with a real question from your fundraising career and how you answered it
✨ Back it up with data and statistics
✨ Stand out, stay relevant — niche but not too niche
✨ Bring co-presenters (bonus points if one is CFRE certified!)
✨ Show HOW you'll engage the room: use polls, media, and conversations to make your session lively

Good luck! 🙌

Our AFP Greater Atlanta Diversity Fellows Program is one way we’re building the future of fundraising by investing in emerging leaders and expanding access to the profession.

Through a strong focus on career pathways and IDEA (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access), we’re committed to developing philanthropy leaders who reflect and serve our communities.

Hear from Tyra A. Seals and Maxwell Moore on what this experience means in action.

Several of our AFP Greater Atlanta members will be in San Diego next week attending and presenting at ICON—the world’s largest fundraising conference!

Even if you’re not there, you can still be part of the impact. AFP has partnered with Blackbaud for the Good Takeover Challenge, and we invite you to support our chapter by making a gift of $20 or more between April 26–28. Blackbaud will add an extra $10 to each donation—helping us get closer to our BE THE CAUSE goal.

Your support fuels scholarships and professional development, advances IDEA (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access) initiatives, and funds critical research for our field. Even better, a portion of what we raise comes back to AFP Greater Atlanta to support programs like our Diversity Fellows Program, the Birgit Burton Scholarship Fund, and meaningful local programming.

When you give, be sure to select Atlanta as your chapter designation.
