Despite her youth, she has consistently demonstrated exceptional academic excellence and leadership. She excels in diverse academic and professional settings, often standing out in rooms filled with individuals nearly twice her age, showcasing her maturity, dedication, and passion for medicine.

America has historically exhibited anti-intellectual tendencies; the nation has often undervalued thinkers and intellectual pursuits. The fabric of this country is predominantly woven from White Anglo-Saxon Protestant (WASP) culture, which influences social norms and institutions. Education in the United States often serves as a gateway into the social and economic elite, acting as a credential that grants access to privileged circles. Once individuals attain this status, they tend to accept the societal structure without question, believing they now "belong." However, the rise of social media is challenging and dismantling this established culture by undermining traditional institutions of power. Social media platforms enable individuals from diverse social and economic backgrounds—regardless of their educational credentials—to access and participate in spaces once reserved for the elite, thereby eroding the exclusivity maintained by prestigious educational institutions. This raises questions: Are today's children less intelligent, or does the breakdown of WASP-exclusive social structures reveal how superficial and insular this country's social hierarchy has always been?

Are our education systems making meaningful progress or are they regressing?

Academia has become increasingly superficial and diluted. It's filled with debates among theorists who use terms that sound innovative and complex, yet often lack substance. For example, concepts like "Polyphonic kaleidoscopic" are invoked, but perhaps it simply signifies a multitude of ideas from various perspectives. What is the simplest way to summarize that lengthy speech? It becomes increasingly nauseating the longer you've been involved in the humanities. For some reason it appears to be about a dog and pony show rather than fixing the situation.

Feminist theorist and author Minna Salami contends that addressing historical biases requires more than merely replacing one viewpoint with another. She advocates for a "polyphonic, kaleidoscopic" approach to education—an approach that exposes young learners not just to different perspectives, but to entirely new ways of thinking and understanding the world. I would be keen to hear your detailed thoughts on how we can achieve such a transformative educational paradigm.

Many believe learning ends when leaving school, but it should never stop. Historically, marginalized groups like the enslaved, the poor, colonized, and oppressed individuals have secretly learned from stolen books to enhance their literacy. My grandparents from the South had to leave school early due to family and economic reasons—my grandfather in 3rd grade and my grandmother in 7th—yet they continued to learn whenever possible. My mother went to college, and though I was born during her second or third year, she had to halt her studies. She eventually returned after 23 years, graduated with a degree, and became a speech therapist in the public school system. I, too, left the private sector to become a high school teacher in public education, a career spanning over 20 years. Ultimately, it’s about morals, perseverance, a steady desire for self-improvement, and a community beyond school. Oppressive systems aim to prevent growth and self-empowerment.

Alicia graduated from high school last year but remains unable to read or write. Throughout her studies, she relied heavily on text-to-speech applications to complete assignments and understand lessons. Despite her mother's persistent pleas for assistance and intervention over several years, her concerns were consistently dismissed or ignored. Currently, Alicia is pursuing legal action by suing the school board, alleging negligence and failure to provide adequate support for her educational needs.
