is part of American history, not just African American history. It marks the day a Union general rode into Galveston, TX and announced the Civil War had ended and the last enslaved Africans living in America were free from slavery. It is also known as Black Independence Day.

A core value of BBBS is belonging. We create a culture of inclusivity where our Black Littles are affirmed, valued, and worthy of a space that allows them to bring their whole self. Juneteenth is our opportunity to celebrate what the ancestors of our Littles have overcome, reaffirming our commitment to always empower their potential.

Who loves walking, talking, cooking, and fishing? Angel and Gina, a new Buncombe/Madison County match, one of three matches we're presenting this New Match Monday. Among their many shared interests is this new one - academics for Angel. Gina is the new Program Coordinator for Madison and Yancey counties.

Sophia and Michelle were matched in Haywood County March 18 and already have plans for their first outing.

In Henderson County, Edsel and Thea kicked off their first adventure with a trip to Umi. “We know this is just the start of many special memories, lots of laughter, and a bond that will last for years to come,” said Ashley Arguelles, Program Coordinator of Henderson County.

You'll be touched by the latest Great Story from Project MARS, an AmeriCorps initiative that helps school children and communities all over Western North Carolina.

My husband and I recently had a house fire where we lost everything. This can be easily described as one of the worst things someone can go through. While of course we are devastated, I truly have only seen goodness…
