Remembering ALAN R. PEARLMAN on his 101st birthday. 🎹 🎂

The Bob Moog Foundation remembers engineer and inventor Alan R. Pearlman (June 7, 1925 - January 5, 2019), the founder of ARP Instruments.

“With greater attention on the part of the engineer to the needs of the musician, the day may not be too remote when the electronic instrument may take its place as a versatile, powerful, and expressive instrument.” - Alan R. Pearlman, 1948, while attending Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) as an engineering student.

Meet Marcus Ryle, Vice President of our Board of Directors! 🎩

A beloved Synth Legend, Marcus Ryle, has been serving on our Board of Directors as Vice President since May, 2023. During his career as an engineer and developer in the musical instrument industry, he has earned 26 U.S. patents and multiple product awards.

Marcus' musical path began in 1980 as a design engineer for Oberheim Electronics, which led him to co-found Fast Forward Designs in 1985, where he helped create a variety of products for Alesis, Dynacord, and Digidesign.

In the mid-1990s, Fast Forward developed its own Line 6 brand of guitar effects, amplifiers, and wireless products. In 2014, the company was acquired by Yamaha, and Marcus later became the general manager of its worldwide guitar division. Most recently, Marcus has been developing the latest generation of Oberheim synthesizers, bringing his career full circle.

As a musician, Ryle has played keyboards and created sounds for releases by artists including Barbra Streisand, Olivia Newton-John, Christopher Cross, Chicago, Chaka Khan, and Lee Ritenour.

Suzanne Ciani turns 80 today! 🎛 🎂

In the 1970s, if you wanted to "make it" as a woman in the recording industry, your path was practically dictated: from background singer to pop star. Suzanne said, "I play synthesizers" to bewildered record executives, but regardless, forged her own path as an early Synth Heroine, creating memorable advertisements and arcade game soundscapes that remain unmistakable to those of us who were around back then!

Suzanne's life and career were splendidly captured in the 2017 biographical feature film, "A Life in Waves." You can freely watch it on YouTube in its entirety! A link is provided in the comments.

The Bob Moog Foundation mourns the untimely loss of one of the industry's best, our good friend LaMar Kronick Mitchell, who passed away on Tuesday.

LaMar grew up in Youngstown, Ohio, part of a musical family. He was the longtime personal technical advisor to the legendary Stevie Wonder. Prior to that, his amazing touring career as a funk keyboardist led him onstage with The Dazz Band, Bernie Worrell, Jodeci, Busta Rhymes, and, naturally, Stevie's band!

LaMar always had our back at years of NAMM Shows, making sure Stevie's annual visit to the expo would eventually lead him to our booth. He was always a joy to be around, making the event a true celebration with his easy-going sense of humor and musical riffing. He will be deeply missed by all of us. We extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues. 💙
