🎹 The Minimoog’s story spans more than five decades, and this November you can explore it in person at the Moogseum.

"Minimoog Through the Ages" runs November 12–16, bringing together examples of Minimoogs from the 1960s through 2026. JoE Silva, author of The Minimoog Book, will be there to answer questions about the instruments.

The exhibit coincides with the Asheville Symphony’s November 14 performances of Gabriel Prokofiev’s Concerto for Minimoog Synthesizer and Orchestra, featuring pianist and Minimoog soloist Inna Faliks. It will be the concerto’s U.S. premiere.

🎧 In 1968, Switched-On Bach introduced countless listeners to a sound they had never heard before.

Wendy Carlos’ electronic realizations of Bach helped bring the Moog synthesizer to a vast new audience. The album became an unexpected crossover success, reaching No. 10 on the Billboard album chart and eventually selling more than a million copies.

Bob Moog got an early glimpse of its impact. Shortly before the album’s release, he played an excerpt for an audience of audio engineers at an Audio Engineering Society gathering in New York. He later recalled that the room responded with a standing ovation.

Bob Moog: engineer, inventor, pocket protector enthusiast.

Look closely at photos of Bob over the years, and you'll often find a familiar accessory tucked into his shirt pocket: a pocket protector, usually stocked with the tools of the trade.

Naturally, we couldn't resist.

🎧 You’ve probably heard a Moog synthesizer on "Here Comes the Sun" more times than you realize.

The Beatles released Abbey Road on this day in 1969. Among its sounds was a Moog modular synthesizer George Harrison brought into the recording sessions.

Listen again to “Here Comes the Sun” and notice how the electronic tones enter alongside Harrison’s acoustic guitar. The Moog also appears on “Because,” “Maxwell’s Silver Hammer,” and “I Want You (She’s So Heavy).”

🎛️ 61 years ago today, the Moog synthesizer took a major step onto the concert stage.

On September 25, 1965, electronic music pioneer Herb Deutsch brought his New York Improvisation Quartet to Town Hall in New York City for the first major public live performance featuring a Moog synthesizer.

The instrument was still remarkably new. Just a year earlier, Deutsch and Bob Moog had collaborated on the development of the first Moog synthesizer prototype. By the time of the Town Hall concert, the system had grown into a more developed modular instrument built for the performance.

It was an early glimpse of something that would soon transform the possibilities of live music.

🎛️ Happy birthday to musician, producer, author, and longtime Bob Moog Foundation collaborator Brian Kehew, born September 22, 1964!

Brian’s work has taken him across many corners of music and music technology, from co-founding The Moog Cookbook to co-authoring the acclaimed Recording The Beatles with Kevin Ryan, producing and engineering recordings, and amassing an extensive collection of vintage synthesizers and electronic musical instruments.

Brian has also played an important role in the Bob Moog Foundation’s archival work. He has served as archive historian and historical consultant, researching materials from Bob Moog’s archives, helping interpret their history, and contributing to exhibitions and stories that have brought rarely seen pieces of Moog history to the public.

Please join us in wishing Brian a very happy birthday! 💙🎹
