Treasury certified non-profit community development financial institution (CDFI) serving Western North Carolina. Mountain BizWorks provides loans and learning opportunities to emerging and established small businesses in Western North Carolina. We have a particular focus on working with businesses unable to access bank financing, as well as low-income, minority, women, and immigrant entrepreneurs, and businesses that operate within the local food system. Mountain BizWorks’ focus is the full range of small business development – from start-ups to existing businesses that aim to grow and create jobs.

New grant opportunity for craft-based small businesses from Craft Your Commerce!

The Crafting Resilience Technical Assistance Grant program will award 50 grants of $1000 for technical assistance for craft-based businesses across Western North Carolina that were impacted by Hurricane Helene. Awardees will also receive 10 free hours of business coaching through Mountain BizWorks.

Meet one of our five Mountain Raise 2026 presenters: Samm Coffin of Matcha N**e. 🍵

Samm started Matcha N**e in 2022 right here in Asheville from her own health and wellness journey. She had a simple belief: real matcha for real people. Today it’s a woman-owned organic matcha brand with more than 4,000 customers and 200+ wholesale partners nationwide, most of them independent coffee shops.

On November 5, she’ll share her story and tell the room exactly what she needs to take Matcha N**e to its next chapter.

🔥 Our Foundations Business Planning courses are in demand! October sessions are full, but we still have two start dates this November.

Foundations is designed for those who want to start a business or explore a new idea within an existing business.. In the course, you'll build the essentials (operations, financials, marketing) and leave with a business plan, a clear vision, and concrete next steps.

Applications are open for Cohort 15 of ScaleUp WNC, Mountain BizWorks' program for Western North Carolina business owners ready to scale.

- A kickoff event and eight in-person core sessions

Last week at theYMI Cultural Center , the NC CDFI Coalition got to hear from 3 businesses that have stories to tell about disaster recovery.
