We’re proud to share that the VITALS Foundation for Medical Transport Professionals has awarded its first-ever scholarship to Jon Lovejoy, Assistant Chief Pilot at Life Link III.

Jon has demonstrated a strong commitment to advancing safety across both rotor and fixed-wing operations, combining frontline leadership, mentorship, and a focus on continuous improvement. His work supporting safety culture, including participation on a cross-functional safety review committee, reflects the type of leadership this scholarship was designed to recognize.

As part of this award, Jon will attend the 2026 Safety Management Training Academy (SMTA), taking place August 10–13 in Grapevine, Texas. Hosted by the Association of Air Medical Services, SMTA is the industry’s leading safety education program, equipping medical transport professionals with the tools and knowledge to strengthen safety management systems and organizational culture.

Now Open: SMTA Scholarship Applications

The VITALS Foundation for Medical Transport Professionals is proud to announce that applications are now open for one (1) SMTA scholarship for the upcoming school.

The Safety Management Training Academy (SMTA) - hosted by the Association of Air Medical Services (AAMS) - provides formal continuing education focused on improving safety in medical transport through the application of safety systems theory.

This is a full two-year scholarship, with the recipient receiving support for both years of the SMTA program, including tuition and lodging—a meaningful investment in your professional growth and your organization’s commitment to safety.

This opportunity is designed for medical transport professionals dedicated to advancing safety, strengthening their expertise, and driving impact across the industry.
