And that’s what we celebrate today on INTERNATIONAL ARCHAEOLOGY DAY! The study of us and our deep history!

Every October the Archaeological Institute of America (AIA) presents archaeological programs and activities for people of all ages and interests...

Whether it’s a family-friendly archaeology fair, a guided tour of a local archaeological site, a simulated dig, or a presentation from a visiting archaeologist, the interactive, hands-on IAD programs provide a chance to uncover the past and experience the thrill of discovery!

Geologic Mapping Day??? Why would we bother to have a whole day dedicated to maps? 🗺️ 🧭

Because geologic maps are among the most important tools we have for studying and understanding our planet 🌎 Geologic mapping has facilitated groundbreaking discoveries for generations, and continues to help us understand the Earth’s resources, hazards, and landscapes!

As an extension of the National Cooperative Geologic Mapping Program, Geologic Map Day focuses the attention of students 🧑‍🎓, teachers 🧑‍🏫, and the general public 👥 on the creation, study, uses, and significance of geologic maps for education, science, business, and public policy.

Geosciences impact every person’s daily life, and so every person deserves access to geoscientific knowledge no matter their background. After all, access to science is the reason for the season!

National Fossil Day highlights the scientific and educational value of paleontology and the importance of preserving fossils for future generations ⛏️
