The future of water sector communications is in good hands.

At , WEF was proud to welcome our Communications Scholars, most of whom attended WEFTEC for the very first time. Throughout the week, these communications professionals explored the world's largest annual water quality event, connected with industry leaders, participated in unique learning and networking opportunities, and experienced firsthand the impact of the water community.

A special thank you to the volunteers and leaders of WEF's Public Communications & Outreach Community (PCOC) who shared their time, expertise, and encouragement as mentors throughout the program. “Guidelines for the Safe Operation of Biogas and RNG Facilities” recommends strategies for addressing known potential hazards associated with facility operations of biogas and renewable natural gas (RNG) systems. There is an urgent need for these guidelines as the wastewater industry enters a transition to RNG for pipeline injection.

We spoke with lead authors Jeff Prevatt and Alex Fuentes in the bookstore at to discuss the ways utility adoption of biogas and RNG systems promote the .

Congratulations to the InFLOW 2026 Scholars! This year, 57 students completed the program at : 33 through the STEMpath track (representing 26 colleges and universities) and 24 through the CareerTech track with Louisiana Green Corps.

Since its launch in 2018, InFLOW has introduced more than 300 students to opportunities in the , inspiring the next generation of water leaders. 🌊

That’s a wrap on an unforgettable week in New Orleans. ⚜️💧

From groundbreaking technical content and industry-leading innovation to service, competition, and community, highlighted the people, partnerships, and passion that drive the water sector forward.

A few highlights from the week:

💪 59 Operations Challenge teams competed from the U.S., Canada, Colombia, and the U.K.

🏆 Division Winners:
• D1: Elevated Ops (Rocky Mountain WEA)
• D2: RMWEA Commode Commandos (Rocky Mountain WEA)
• D3: Renewable Renegades (WEA of South Carolina)

🎓 57 InFLOW graduates, including 33 STEMpath participants representing 26 colleges and universities and 24 CareerTech participants through Louisiana Green Corps.

🏆 Student Design Competition featured 31 teams representing 25 Member Associations from four countries and Puerto Rico.

First-place honors went to:
