CCUSA welcomes Pope Leo XIV's first encyclical, Magnifica Humanitas, released today. “With Magnifica Humanitas, Pope Leo XIV has presented our church and our world with an invaluable ethical and spiritual framework for thoughtfully approaching powerful new technologies,” said Catholic Charities USA President and CEO Kerry Alys Robinson. Across the Catholic Charities network, we look forward to deeply reading and reflecting on this new encyclical and applying its teachings to our work serving our neighbors in need around the United States.”

Each year on Memorial Day, we pause to honor the men and women whose ultimate sacrifice helped ensure our freedoms and liberty. Their legacy is one of selfless service and of commitment to family, community and country. We salute their memory.

A key part of our mission is advocating for justice in social structures, acting — as established at our founding in 1910 — as “the attorney for the poor.” Today, Catholic Charities leaders from across the country are continuing that work by meeting with elected officials at the Capitol and sharing insight into the needs of their communities from the daily ministry they provide.

Today we celebrate with gratitude the mothers and mother figures who love, support and nurture — especially those who serve selflessly in the Catholic Charities network. Happy Mother’s Day!

This Mother’s Day weekend, we celebrate the gift of life and those who nurture it — including those who support new moms. San Antonio Birth Doulas, a program of Catholic Charities, Archdiocese of San Antonio, Inc., started in 1999 serving pregnant women — especially teens and low-income women, who sought to have a healthy delivery experience — with compassion, research-based education and culturally responsive support. This spring, as the result of a collaborative project between CCUSA and Catholic Charities San Antonio, the first-ever cohort of graduates from the National Community Doula Certification Program, representing 9 Catholic Charities agencies, completed a 100-hour course aimed at addressing a crucial gap in maternal and infant health. According to one participant, "My doula certification equipped me with the knowledge and skills to support mothers emotionally, physically, and mentally throughout pregnancy and birth." Congratulations to the graduates!
