Catholic Charities USA joins with the Diocese of Venice in Florida and so many others in mourning the loss of Bishop Frank Dewane, who served as CCUSA's episcopal liason from 2020 to 2025. Read the statement from CCUSA President and CEO Kerry Alys Robinson:

It is with profound sadness that we greet the news of the death of Bishop Emeritus Frank Dewane. A deeply faithful man, he was committed to his work on justice, peace, integral human development, religious liberty, and the pastoral care of migrants and refugees. Catholic Charities USA benefitted enormously from his time as our episcopal liaison. A learned and well-traveled man, he never forgot his Wisconsin dairy farm roots but could regale with stories of his years spent abroad. Bishop Dewane's passing is a loss to the Diocese of Venice and to the greater Catholic community, but we give thanks today for the profound impact his ministry and witness had on so many lives.

Last fall, the Catholic Charities network received an apostolic blessing and a letter from Pope Leo XIV. In part of that letter, Pope Leo reflected on the difficult challenges that face those affected by poverty and forced migration, but he reminded us to "not forget that they can also be witnesses to hope not only through their trust in divine assistance, but also by their resilience in often having to overcome many obstacles on their journeys. In a special way, Catholic migrants and refugees have become missionaries of hope in many nations, including your own, by bringing with them a vibrant faith and the popular devotions that often re-energize the parishes who welcome them."

We celebrate the beatification of Archbishop Fulton Sheen, who today moves one step closer to official sainthood. With his signature humor and wit, he reached millions through his radio and TV shows, making complicated theological concepts accessible, and inspired countless Catholics to deepen their faith.
