What does successful prison reentry look like? According to Tracy Morrison, executive director of Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Dubuque, “it takes an entire community....It is ensuring that an individual’s worst day is not how they are defined forever.” Earlier this month, her agency hosted two dozen staffers — working in prison ministry or whose agencies are considering starting a program — from 14 Catholic Charities agencies and Catholic Charities USA. The two-day meeting provided an opportunity to share wisdom, discuss funding, and see a successful prison ministry firsthand. Archbishop Thomas Zinkula of the Archdiocese of Dubuque, a regular visitor to Anamosa State Penitentiary, also joined the gathering to share his enthusiasm for the work.

Catholic Charities agencies give their all to serve their local communities — but they also often share their expertise and resources across our 170-agency network. The Catholic Charities USA Disaster Cadre is a perfect example of this, as trained experts from Catholic Charities agencies deploy to assist other agencies in the midst of disaster response.
More Disaster Cadre members will be deploying to Catholic Charities of Southern Colorado in the coming weeks, including Abby from Catholic Charities USA, Jordan from Catholic Charities, Diocese of St. Petersburg, and Karina and Stacey from Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Owensboro.
