Twenty leaders are stepping into a new chapter of service, ready to bring their perspectives, experience, and heart to boardrooms across Greater Akron.

Over the coming months, this class will deepen their understanding of nonprofit board service through governance education, personalized coaching, board shadowing, community service, and connection with leaders and organizations across the region. They'll leave with practical knowledge, lasting relationships, and a broader view of the community they're preparing to serve.

Strong boards are built on curiosity, clarity, and connection. We're proud to welcome these 20 leaders as they step forward together.

Meet the 39 leaders stepping into a ten-month journey across Greater Akron, one designed to expand how they see the region and how they lead within it.

Over the coming year, this class will move beyond familiar routines and into the people, places, systems, and conversations shaping our community. They'll engage directly with Greater Akron's institutions, sit with the opportunities and challenges facing the region, and build relationships across sectors that last well beyond the program itself.

We're glad you're here, Class 43. Let's expand your experience together.

Celebrating Henry Johnson, Jr.! 🎉

We're proud to share that our own Henry Johnson, Jr., Vice President of Programs & Operations, has been recognized in the 2026 edition of Who's Who in Black Cleveland.

This honor celebrates African American leaders whose work leaves a lasting mark across business, community service, and beyond. Nearly 250 influential figures are featured in this year's edition, unveiled at the InterContinental Cleveland on August 31.

Henry brings heart, vision, and steady leadership to everything he does at Leadership Akron, and to the people and programs he pours into every day. When asked what this recognition means to him, Henry shared:

"Leadership has never been about a title for me. It is about purpose, service, relationships, and helping others recognize the value they bring into every room."

That spirit is exactly what those of us who work alongside him see every day. His leadership strengthens our community and helps Greater Akron thrive.

Congratulations, Henry. This one is well deserved. 👏

What a night of connection, celebration, and community at our 2026 Annual Meeting & Read Family Difference Maker Award Reception!

Special thanks to our Presenting Partner, Franklin University, who "made it possible"!

Thank you to everyone who joined us for Leadership Akron’s 2026 Annual Meeting & Read Family Difference Maker Award Reception. It was an opportunity to reconnect with familiar faces, welcome new ones, reflect on the work happening across our community, and look ahead to what’s possible when leaders continue to show up for one another.

A special congratulations to Jennifer Venarge DiSalvo, Signature Class 38, this year’s Read Family Difference Maker Award recipient. Jennifer’s commitment to Junior Leadership Akron and her willingness to consistently give her time, wisdom, and heart to the next generation of leaders is a beautiful example of what it means to make a difference.

We were also proud to officially welcome and celebrate the newest members of Signature Class 43, Diversity on Board Class 11, and NEXT Class 15. Each person brings their own story, perspective, gifts, and experiences to Leadership Akron, and we are excited for the journey ahead.

To our alumni, community partners, sponsors, board members, volunteers, friends, and everyone who continues to believe in the work of Leadership Akron, thank you. Our work is possible because of a community that understands that leadership is not simply about a title or position. It is about relationships, service, showing up, and using what we have to make our community stronger.
There is something special about bringing generations of leaders together in one room. It reminds us that while our individual Leadership Akron experiences may happen in different classes and at different times, we are all connected by a shared responsibility to Greater Akron and to one another.

Together, we connect. Together, we grow. And together, we continue to make a difference.

Save the date for Leadership Akron's next big event. 🗓️

On Thursday, November 5, 2026, we'll gather at the John S. Knight Center to present the Lieberth Community Vision Award to Marty Hauser, a leader whose work has helped build a healthier, more connected Greater Akron.

Marty has spent nearly 45 years in healthcare, including founding and leading SummaCare as President and CEO. A member of Leadership Akron Signature Class 11, he continues to give back across our community, from serving on our Board to facilitating our Insight program, and now as the first board chair of the Trailhead Community Health Foundation of Greater Akron.

The Lieberth Award honors leaders who put the whole community first, who bring vision and pragmatism to the work, and who roll up their sleeves to get it done. Marty embodies all of it.

It was a big month for our very own Henry Johnson, Jr., Vice President of Programs & Operations. And we couldn't be prouder to celebrate him! 🎉

1️⃣ Henry was invited to present at the Association of Leadership Programs conference. His session, "A Seat at the Table: Why Boards That Reflect Our Communities Matter," asks leaders to think more deeply about who is represented in board service and why those voices matter. With more than 15 years of board service and four years guiding Diversity on Board, Henry brings a perspective shaped by experience, care, and a deep belief that stronger boards help build stronger communities.

2️⃣ He was also named the 2026 recipient of the Heart of Belonging Award from the Association of Fundraising Professionals of Northeast Ohio, honoring leadership that advances inclusion, belonging, equity, and access. For those of us who work alongside him, this recognition feels deeply fitting. Henry leads with compassion, integrity, humor, and a steady commitment to helping others see their own leadership more clearly.

3️⃣ And there's more: Henry was accepted into IDEAL Essentials: Lead with Coaching at Case Western Reserve University's Weatherhead School of Management, an opportunity that will keep strengthening his work in coaching, listening, and helping leaders turn insight into action. Those gifts already show up in how he leads, and we're grateful to watch him keep growing as he helps others do the same.

Please join us in congratulating Henry. Greater Akron is stronger because of leaders like him.
