Cathy Bongiovi has been teaching Sport Communication at the University of Akron since August 2017. Named the 2021 Outstanding Adjunct Faculty Member at UA, Bongiovi served as the Assistant Athletics Director for Communications for six years (2014-20) until her position at UA was eliminated in July 2020. Bongiovi earned a master's degree in education from the University of Akron in 2017. She is a distant cousin to musician and philanthropist Jon Bon Jovi.
