A little teaching doll. A big purpose. Next stop: Italy! 🇳🇿✈️🇮🇹

Today, our IAIM NZ Trainer and Chapter Representative, P-J McCrea, is setting off to Florence - with Maui her teaching doll coming along for the adventure!

From 10–21 October, P-J will join our international IAIM community for the five-day Trainers’ Meeting, a workshop, Chapter Representatives’ Day and General Assembly.

It’s an opportunity to learn together, share experiences and represent Aotearoa in a worldwide community united by one purpose: promoting nurturing touch and communication so parents, caregivers and children feel loved, valued and respected.

The learning reaches beyond the meeting room - back to our instructors, our communities and the families they support. 🌱🌻

Heading into Term 4...

From 1995 to today, the IAIM NZ Chapter has now been promoting infant massage throughout Aotearoa for over 30 years. 💜

Recently we celebrated this special milestone and acknowledged the dedication of those who continue to share this beautiful work.

Our 2025–2026 financial year statistics included:
✨ 64 Active Members
✨ 2 Life Members
✨ 1 Trainer
✨ 3 Active Board Members | 1 Retired Board Member

Together we continue to promote a relational, cue-based, baby-led 5-week infant massage programme, supporting connection, communication and nurturing touch between parent and pēpi.

As we head into Term 4, I am also proud to be representing the IAIM NZ Chapter at the upcoming Biennial Trainers Meeting, Chapter Meeting and General Assembly in Florence, Italy.

I’ll be sure to keep you posted with updates along the way.
Here’s to continuing to grow IAIM NZ across Aotearoa.

🎉 AND THAT MAKES THREE! 🎉

Another of our May IAIM Infant Massage Instructor Training students has crossed the finish line!

A huge congratulations to Jill, an Infant Mental Health Clinician based in Queensland, Australia, who is now officially a:

🌿 Certified Infant Massage Instructor - CIMI 🌿

Jill came to the training already experienced in supporting parents and infants, including facilitating mother-and-baby groups and providing 1:1 dyadic therapeutic work.

Through her IAIM journey, she discovered another perspective to bring alongside that work - the importance of touch and body work for both parent and infant.

During her five-week practical programme, Jill reflected on how much she enjoyed observing the connection between parent and infant grow through touch, and how this reminded her of the value of body work alongside talking therapy.

She also shared how valuable the practical component of our online training was:

💜 “The live component of a group in the training prepared me very well to guide my first Infant Massage class.”

This is where the learning comes to life - taking the theory, experiencing the programme with real parents and pēpi, and then carrying that learning into your own work and community.

Jill, it has been such a pleasure watching you embrace both the theory and practical elements of the programme.

You now have another beautiful tool to weave through the IAIM lens into your Infant Mental Health work - supporting connection, communication and the developing relationship between parent and pēpi during such a sacred and tender window. 🌿

🎉 ANOTHER MAY STUDENT HAS CROSSED THE FINISH LINE! 🎉

A huge congratulations to Kelsey Hill, a Health Worker with Whānau Āwhina Plunket here in Northland, who has completed her certification and is now officially a 🌿 Certified Infant Massage Instructor - CIMI 🌿

Kelsey, it has been wonderful watching your confidence grow from training through to running your own five-week programme.

When reflecting on her certification journey, Kelsey shared that one of her most valuable personal learnings was:

"Building my confidence in working with groups of mums and sharing my passions/knowledge."

Professionally, she valued making connections with other services - connections that can have such a ripple effect when working alongside parents, pēpi and whānau in our communities.

Kelsey also shared how valuable the practical experience was during our online training:

“Really enjoyed the course. It was a lot to cover but I think P-J set it out really well, it didn’t seem overwhelming and the opportunity to take part in holding a class made a huge difference.”

And on learning together online:

“For online training it was really good. P-J does a great job at getting everyone involved and encouraging them to take part, which I think is super helpful.”

When asked if she would recommend the training to others, Kelsey said:
“Yes, amazing opportunity for us as māmā and to share within our communities.”

And that really is at the heart of this mahi. ❤️

🎉 Time for another celebration - AND WE HAVE NUMBER ONE… 🎉

A huge congratulations to Lucie, who attended our May 2026 Online IAIM Infant Massage Instructor Training and has now completed her journey to become a Certified Infant Massage Instructor - CIMI! 💛

The four training days are just one part of the journey.

After training comes the mahi - taking what has been learned into practice, working with families through the 5-week infant massage programme, completing the assignment and bringing all that learning together towards certification.

And today we get to celebrate Lucie crossing that finish line (which happened to be yesterday)🎓✨

Congratulations, Lucie! All your hard work has paid off, and we’re delighted to officially welcome you to the IAIM NZ whānau as a Certified Infant Massage Instructor. With your experience as a childbirth educator and your background in early childhood education, you bring so much to the families you’ll support 🌱🌻

✨ FROM LEARNING… TO SHARING WITH FAMILIES ✨
What a wonderful four Fridays we have shared with our September 2026 IAIM Infant Massage Instructor Training students. 💛

Four days of learning, practising, reflecting, asking questions, sharing ideas and discovering more about the beautiful, baby-led and cue-based approach at the heart of the IAIM programme.

A special part of our training was welcoming parents and pēpi to join us, giving our students the opportunity to share a small part of the programme with real families and begin putting their learning into practice.

And what did our students say?

💬 “I think that it has set me up well to start introducing this to parents.”

💬 “I most enjoyed being part of such an incredible team and having the opportunity to demonstrate what we had learned.”

💬 “I’ve learned so much and feel inspired to keep growing my skills.”

💬 “the proof is in the pudding, seeing parents show up again and again was one of the highlights that they did want to learn from us.”

Their four training days are now complete, but their journey continues as they work with families and complete their assignments towards becoming Certified Infant Massage Instructors (CIMIs).

We are so proud of the work they have put in and look forward to celebrating them as they cross that finish line. 🌱

Today was such a special part of our IAIM NZ September Instructor Training - the day our students stepped forward and began teaching. 💜

6 students. 6 parents and pēpi.
And behind every screen, something beautiful was unfolding - confidence growing, connections forming, babies leading the way, and our students putting everything they have been learning into practice.

When we reflected afterwards, this was a highlight for both our students and our parents. 🥰

We are incredibly grateful to the parents and pēpi who generously join us during our trainings. Having real families present gives our students something no manual can fully teach - the opportunity to slow down, observe, listen, respond to babies’ cues and experience what it truly means to follow the baby.

To the families who weren’t able to make it today, we were holding space for you too. 💕 We look forward to welcoming you back and reconnecting next week.

And to our six students… look how far you’ve already come. 🌱🌻

One more training day to go. ✨

The protectors. The encouragers. The playful ones. The steady arms. The quiet comfort.

Today we celebrate all that dads and father figures bring to the lives of our pēpi and tamariki.

Infant massage offers another powerful way to connect - through nurturing touch, shared calm and moments of undivided attention.

A beautiful co-regulation tool to add to the parenting kete, strengthening the bond between baby and the person holding them.

Every new journey begins with the courage to take one step. 🌱🌻

Today, six students took that step as they began their four-day IAIM Infant Massage Instructor Training.

Each arrived with their own knowledge, experience and hopes for how they may share infant massage with parents, pēpi and whānau.

At the end of Day 1, we reflected together. Students spoke about slowing down, being fully present, observing babies’ cues and allowing each baby to lead. When this awareness is combined with infant massage and nurturing touch, it becomes a powerful form of communication - helping parents listen, respond and connect with their baby beyond words.

One student had waited five years to begin this journey. Another learned infant massage with her own baby 11 years ago and is now returning to become certified and pass that gift on to others.

I was deeply touched when another student shared that the energy and excitement I bring to the teaching was helping her feel excited to learn and develop her own confidence.

Teaching is more than passing on information.

It is about bringing learning alive and creating a space where people feel seen, supported and brave enough to step into what is possible.

When people feel safe and encouraged, something beautiful begins to unfold. Confidence grows. Possibilities open. Seeds are planted.

Day 1 is complete, but the journey is only beginning. 🌱💛
