A heartfelt thank you to Fauono Ken Laban and the team at Lower Hutt City Council for hosting an afternoon tea for our hardworking volunteers from the Lower Hutt Foodbank today.

We truly appreciate you taking the time out of your busy schedule to make time for us. It was an honour for our foodbank team and volunteers to be welcomed and acknowledged in such a warm and generous way.

Our volunteers work tirelessly behind the scenes to help keep the foodbank going and to support families and individuals across our community, so this gesture meant a lot to everyone involved.

Thank you for your ongoing support of our community and for recognising the dedication and service of our volunteers.

Ngā mihi Hutt Intermediate for donating a generous amount of food items, and for the $600 raised for the Foodbank 😍 It’s always encouraging to see our local schools getting behind the community in such a practical way.

Lend a hand, make a difference 💚

Lower Hutt Foodbank is looking for new Committee members to help support the next stage of our work in the community.

Our Committee helps guide the Foodbank, support good decision-making, and make sure we are well placed to continue serving local families and whānau.

We are looking for people who can contribute actively, work collaboratively, and bring practical skills, fresh perspectives, community understanding, or local connections.

We would especially welcome people with skills or interest in:
• health and safety, risk, or practical organisational systems
• communications or social media
• governance, policy or administration
• community engagement and local networks
• supporting food access and community wellbeing in Lower Hutt

Previous governance or committee experience would be helpful, but is not required. The Foodbank works in a relational and practical way, so we are looking for people who are open to learning, adapting, and working alongside others.

Committee meetings are currently held monthly on the second Tuesday of each month from 6:00pm, usually for around 1.5 to 2 hours. There is also some preparation before meetings, and some work between meetings depending on the areas each person is supporting.

If you are interested or have questions about the role, send us a DM and we can share more info!

Over the past few weeks, our Foodbank has been incredibly lucky to receive so many generous donations from local schools like Boulcott Primary. Thank you for supporting the Foodbank and helping us care for our community.

Last week’s food drive was a reminder of what community looks like 🥹

Huge thanks to all our amazing volunteers for donating your time, NDYYouth, the team at Seven Electrical for donating vans and petrol to help with deliveries, Lower Hutt and for supporting our food drive, and to everyone who gave food items, donated money, or shared the word about our work.

Your support helps keep our shelves stocked and ensures we can continue supporting those who need it most.

A visit from gave us the chance to highlight the important role our volunteers and community play in keeping the Foodbank running.

We also shared the growing need we’re seeing, and the importance of moving towards greater food sovereignty, where communities have more control over how food is accessed and shared.

Ngā mihi Ginny for taking the time to learn more about the impact of this work.

Talofa lava and Kia Ora everyone,

We’ve had an amazing response to our upcoming food drive — thank you all so much for your support and for asking what items are most needed.

This is a list of essential items we’re currently short on. However, we don’t want to limit or cap donations — anything you are able to give will be greatly appreciated. Every contribution, big or small, goes directly back to support our aiga and whānau in our local community.

Fa’afetai tele lava for your kindness, generosity, and ongoing support 💛
