You all managed to raise $10,019.95 for our donation match programme - which means the full $10,000 match has been unlocked!

That's over $20,000 going towards our new fence for the rescued cavies. We are absolutely blown away and deeply humbled by your generosity and support.

Over the last 3 days, we've seen 4 roaming dogs on our local streets and had an off-leash dog run down off the hill and onto the front of our property, growling at us with its hackles up. This fence really helps us keep the animals in the rescue safe - and your support made it possible.

Every single donation - big or small - made this possible. Thank you to everyone who shopped, donated, and shared our mission. You've given our guinea pigs a safer, better space to thrive while they wait for their forever homes.

🚧 Fence Fundraiser Update – Ends Tomorrow Midnight (31/05/26)! 🚧

We’re so close! Thanks to everyone’s incredible generosity, the Fence Donation Match Fundraiser has reached $9,149.95 — just a little more to go before we unlock the full $10,000 match! Every dollar donated until midnight tomorrow, 31 May 2026, will be doubled, helping us reach our goal and keep our animals, volunteers, and visitors safe.

This fence means security for everyone at Auckland Cavy Care and allows us to keep doing what we do best — helping guinea pigs in need.

Meet Bingle and Buttersworth, two boys who came to us after kind members of the public raised concerns for their wellbeing.
Sadly, their previous owners were not able to improve the boys’ living conditions, and with some gentle encouragement, agreed to surrender them so they could have a better life. We’re very thankful to their former owners for making that difficult but caring decision.

Both boys are now thriving — Buttersworth is happily settled in a long-term foster home with his new girlfriend, and Bingle has just been adopted into his forever home in Hamilton, also with a lovely companion of his own.

Stories like theirs are possible because of the support from this amazing community. Let’s finish strong and reach that full match! 💚

Our other new item has landed in the shop! 🐹

Looking for a ready-to-go home for two guinea pigs, or a reliable emergency housing option to keep on hand?

We’ve added our Complete Guinea Pig Cage Setup for Two to the shop — with everything you need to create a cosy, practical space for your piggies.

When set up, the cage measures 70cm x 140cm.

Each setup includes:

12 grids
2x4 pre-cut corflute base
Litter tray
Water bowl
Wooden tunnel
Fleece cage liner, made by Little Hop, a NZ business
Fleece cosy house, made by Little Hop, a NZ business, with 2 p*e pads
Soft bed
Pellet bowl

This setup is also great as emergency housing — easy to tuck away and set up when needed.

🌾 A huge thank you to Bunny Bach! 🌾

We're so grateful for the ongoing support from Bunny Bach! On Friday, we picked up 6 compact bales of hay, and as always, they were so happy to help out whenever the rescue needs it.

Hay is absolutely essential for our guinea pigs and rabbits - it's their main food source and plays a vital role in keeping their digestive systems healthy and their teeth worn down naturally. Without quality hay, our little ones simply can't thrive.

We really appreciate this generous support, especially from a small business like Bunny Bach. It's community partnerships like this that help us continue caring for our rescue cavies. Thank you for making such a difference! 💚

Happy Mother's Day to all mums - of all species! 💕

I know the page has been quiet lately, and I'm sorry for that.
Between being a mum to a human toddler, working full time, running the rescue, and caring for our own pets... let's just say cavy care admin has taken a back seat. It's a lot to juggle! 🫠

But I (Hartley) couldn't let today pass without saying how incredibly thankful I am for my mum and all the support she's given me and my family. 💗

I promise to share more cavy care updates soon!
Just because it's quiet on here doesn't mean it's quiet behind the scenes - usually it's the opposite!

Fence Update – 20 April 2026

Big news — the backbone of our new fence is finally in place! 🎉 Check out the photo to see how far we’ve come. It’s been a tougher job than expected (think rock, cyclones, and storms 😅), but our amazing contractor has powered through, and we’re so excited to see real progress.

💚 We need your help to finish strong!
We still have a bit to go to cover the final payment, but here’s the exciting part — a wonderful supporter is matching all donations until the end of May, up to $10,000! That means every dollar given right now becomes two. Let’s not leave any of that generosity unmatched!
