There are at least seven sets of parents reeling in the last few weeks from news of something their child was allegedly involved in.

More, if we're counting bystanders.

None of them expected it to be their kid.

Right now, they're probably asking questions that cut to the core of parenting:

⁉️ How did we get here?
❓️What shaped their choices?
❓️What did they stand for when it mattered?

Values aren't guarantees.
But they don't develop accidentally either.

What reo Māori have your kids taught you?

We love little D’s wonder in this vid… ‘We should teach Nana and Grandad!’

Our kids have this beautiful privilege of growing up with te reo Māori encouraged, spoken and sung openly in everyday life. It’s neat to pick up on their wonder and run with it, even in little ways 🏃🏽‍♀️🏃🏾

Here’s some of our fave quick te reo Māori phrases to throw into whānau life…

💗 E aroha ana ahau kia a koe (I love you)

🍽️ Haere mai, ki te kai (Come, food’s ready)

😕 Arohamai, nōku te he (Sorry, my fault)

🤟🏽 Ko koe tōku taonga (You’re my treasure)

🛌🏼 Pō mārie (Good night)

Ko tōku reo, ko tōku taonga, ko tōku taonga ko tōku reo.

My language is my treasure, my treasure is my language.
