Thank you for standing up and speaking out to progress the Modern Slavery Bill.

This time, the clock ran out.

But it is not the end of the story.

We have been told the Modern Slavery Bill is likely to be reinstated in the new Parliament and pass its remaining stages in early 2027.

We will continue to advocate for this law until it’s passed.

Tearfund’s Claire Gray reflects “It took William Wilberforce and his fellow abolitionists around 20 years of political campaigning to abolish the transatlantic slave trade. We’ve been working at this for six years. So I look to his historical example as inspiration to relentlessly pursue justice!”

Lisette reports from Simle - a village built to support one of the hydropower plants. 39 people are still missing, and 15 homes were washed away.

Tearfund's Nepal liaison, Jeevan, shares “They have lost everything. They have lost their houses, their homes, all of their belongings. They have nothing left,” he says. “So these materials we provide are very critical.”

On the morning of August 26, the peaceful life enjoyed by residents of the small Nepalese village of Simle was shattered.

Today the team have heard stories of terrible loss, and continue to see the effects of last month's floods in Nepal.

In the midst of staggering need, there is hope. Our partner Share and Care have been able to provide food and hygiene supplies, and are helping to build shelter.

From a school high up in the hills, now sheltering 16 families who have been displaced, Ian McInnes updates us on what he is seeing.
