Our Hooked On Cricket tournaments took place around the country earlier this year, bringing together Year 5 and 6 Tamariki from schools not traditionally strong in cricket.

The day is not just about cricket skills. It is about giving kids the opportunity to express themselves, enjoy sport, showcase their talent, and be encouraged toward success in sport and in life.

This post-event reaction video captures the energy, smiles, and impact of Hooked On Cricket across Aotearoa.

We would also like to thank Queen Street Cricket Club for their ongoing support of Hooked On Cricket and for helping create meaningful opportunities for Tamariki through the game.

Today marks Heath Mills’ final day as Chief Executive of the New Zealand Cricket Players Association.

After more than 25 years of service, Heath leaves a legacy that is woven into the fabric of professional cricket in New Zealand.

He established the NZCPA from scratch in 2001 and helped build it into a globally respected players’ association. Under his leadership, the organisation has delivered lasting progress for players, including collective agreements, the Personal Development Programme, the NZCPA Retirement Fund, the Cricketers’ Trust and the Cricket Players’ Property Trust.

Heath has also been a strong advocate for the women’s game and has played an important role in the professionalisation of cricket in New Zealand, including the progress that brought men’s and women’s professional cricketers under a single Master Agreement.

But Heath’s contribution has always gone well beyond structures, agreements and programmes.

He has carried the role of CEO with real presence. He has led through serious moments, tough conversations and big decisions, while always remaining approachable, human and good company.

Those who know Heath also know the value of a good lunchroom story, especially after an overseas trip. Sometimes inspiring, sometimes unbelievable, sometimes possibly exaggerated, but always worth hearing.

That mix of gravitas, humour, self-awareness and warmth is rare.

What sits underneath it all is what so many people value most about Heath. He has real mana. He has led with strong ethics, sound morals, courage and genuine care for people. He has given so much of himself to the NZCPA, to the players and to the game.

Heath, thank you for your vision, leadership and unwavering commitment to players past, present and future.

You have been a fantastic leader of this organisation and, very simply, a genuinely good man.

The NZCPA is stronger because of the foundation you built.

Kia waimarie, ngā manaakitanga mō ngā rā kei mua, me ngā mahi katoa kei mua i a koe, Heath.

Ben Hurley has finally made it to Lord’s... not by buying a ticket, obviously, but by somehow convincing people he is a legitimate member of the cricket media.

A proud and special moment for our NZCPA whānau.

We are delighted to congratulate two NZCPA members recognised in the King’s Birthday Honours.

Suzie Bates has been appointed an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to cricket and basketball. John Sparling, pictured presenting Lachlan Stackpole with his Auckland cap, has been appointed a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to cricket.

These honours recognise not only outstanding contribution and achievement, but years of dedication, leadership and service to sport in Aotearoa New Zealand.

John’s long-standing service to cricket reflects a deep and lasting commitment to the game and its people, while Suzie’s impact as one of New Zealand’s great athletes and role models continues to inspire across generations.

On behalf of the NZCPA, congratulations Suzie and John.
