Who supported you in your career journey?

Most of us can think of someone who encouraged us, opened a door, shared advice, or simply believed in us when we needed it most.

A mentor, manager, colleague, friend, teacher, or family member - those moments of support can shape confidence, careers, and futures in ways we never forget.

At Dress for Success, we see every day how powerful encouragement and connection can be for women navigating change, rebuilding confidence, or stepping into new opportunities.

Sometimes, one conversation can make all the difference.

We’d love to hear:
Who supported you in your career journey, and what impact did they have on you?

We're thrilled to welcome Ying Li as our guest speaker for an upcoming Dress for Success Auckland workshop - designed for women navigating job search and career transitions in New Zealand.

With 15+ years of experience spanning recruitment agencies, corporate hiring, and career mentoring, Ying has sat on both sides of the interview table. She has partnered on talent acquisition with global organisations including ABB and large-scale recruitment projects involving Tesla-related initiatives, successfully placed hundreds of candidates, and supported job seekers at different stages of their career journey.

This practical, no-fluff session will take you inside the hiring manager's mind:

• What hiring managers are really evaluating, and it's not just your C
• Why being the "right fit" often matters more than being the "best on paper"
• First impressions: the micro-signals that shape decisions within the first few seconds
• Common mistakes that quietly reduce your chances
• How to show up authentically, confidently, and memorably

"Don't wait to be chosen - make NOT choosing you their loss."

Whether you're returning to the workforce, changing careers, or pursuing your next opportunity, this session offers real-world insights from someone who has reviewed countless applications and understands what can truly shift the odds in your favour.

Programme Highlight: Our Mentoring Journey Begins

There’s something powerful about being supported by someone who believes in your potential.

This week marks the beginning of a new mentoring journey for our participants, a space for connection, encouragement, growth, and possibility. Through shared experiences, guidance, and meaningful conversations, mentors and mentees will walk alongside each other as confidence grows and goals take shape.

Mentoring is more than career support. It’s about building trust, expanding perspectives, and reminding women they do not have to navigate change alone.

We are so excited to see the relationships, learning, and transformations that will unfold over the coming months.

A heartfelt thank you to the incredible mentors at EY and Dress for Success Auckland, who have generously stepped forward to support and empower wāhine in our community.

Mentoring Tip: Come Prepared to Grow

A mentoring relationship can be powerful — and you don’t need to wait for your first meeting to start learning.

Attend PushFar’s monthly, live mentoring training workshops, completely free to everyone. For both mentors and mentees, their mentoring training workshops are one-hour long and train both mentors and mentees in mentoring best-practice.

Because mentoring works best when both mentor and mentee show up ready to learn.
