From beautician to woodworker!

Our Saturday group including Raya here did a fantastic job at our Introduction to Woodwork class yesterday. Most had never even used a drill before, but by the end of the day they'd learned a whole range of new skills, got stuck in, and made something they were proud of.

Our women-only classes means there’s no pressure to already know what you’re doing, and no fear of getting it wrong.

Who knows where a new skill might take you? 💪🪵

A huge shout out to Sue from Return to Sender Caskets for her generous donation of plywood off-cuts and dowels to WomenzShed today.

Thanks to donations like these, we're excited to be developing a September School Holiday Woodworking programme for girls - something we've been asked about by parents time and time again.

We'll build a different project each day, such as their own wooden jewellery stand, learning practical woodworking skills while creating something beautiful and useful to take home.

We also love that these quality materials are being given a second life rather than going to waste. Repurposing timber off-cuts is something WomenzShed has always been passionate about, helping support a more circular economy while inspiring the next generation of makers.

If you know any young (15+ yrs) women in Auckland who would love to learn woodworking, please share this post with their parents, grandparents or caregivers. We'll be announcing dates and bookings soon!

We were delighted to have these beginner woodworkers join us at Otaki on Saturday, where they soaked up the knowledge and practised the skills local carpenter Joy shared with them. Not only did they feel empowered, their confidence with power-tools rocketed as they completed their first woodworking project, like a pro 👉 🔨🪚
