As part of our ongoing commitment to providing safe and secure homes, we recently carried out routine inspections at a number of our properties with the help of specialist dog handler Sarah and her friendly detection dogs, Rip and Piper.

These visits are part of our regular efforts to help ensure our communities are safe and comfortable for everyone.

Thank you to our tenants for their cooperation and understanding throughout the inspections, and a special thank you to Sarah and her four-legged team for their professional work.

Our office has a new face, and we're thrilled to welcome Amara to the team as our Customer Service Officer.
Amara will be based out of our Liverpool St office, but she'll be on the phone in our call centre, providing administrative support, and connecting with tenants as she gets to know the Home in Place community. Her role will help ensure we're providing the best support to the people who call our communities home.
Please join us in giving Amara a warm welcome, and make sure you give her a wave if you see her around!

A colourful new addition has appeared for our Nile Street community in Nelson.

Tenants are waking up today to a vibrant mural painted across the side of their bike shed, featuring a design that celebrates Nelson and the activities the region is known for.

The mural was arranged by the property owners and developers, SOHO Group, who wanted to create a joyful addition to the site for tenants and the wider community to enjoy.

The concept was designed by artist James Hunt, whose bold and playful work can be found across Aotearoa.

Thank you to SOHO Group and James for bringing some extra colour and character to Nile Street.

Healthcare came directly to our May Road community today, with the Pounamu Van mobile medical service visiting the site to connect tenants with free medical care.

The visit was organised by Angela, helping remove some of the barriers that can make accessing healthcare difficult.

Ten tenants were able to see a doctor during today’s visit, receiving medical advice and support in a familiar and convenient location.

Thank you to the Pounamu Van team for providing this important service and supporting the health and wellbeing of our tenants.

Home in Place NZ Tenancy Manager Fran recently completed a two-day Mental Health First Aid course to help further develop her skills in supporting tenants.

The course gave Fran a deeper understanding of mental health and the different factors that can affect wellbeing, housing stability, communication and engagement with support services.

“One of the biggest things I took away was feeling so much more confident in recognising when someone might be experiencing mental health challenges, and knowing how to respond and support them,” Fran said.

“The A.L.G.E.E. action plan is something I’ll genuinely carry with me. It’s a practical framework that gives you the confidence to step in when someone needs help."

“If you don’t know what A.L.G.E.E. is, definitely find out by taking the course yourself. IFYKYK!”

Great work, Fran, and thank you for continuing to build your skills to better support tenants and communities.

Peter was pleased to attend the blessing of 16 brand new Kāinga Ora homes in Nelson yesterday!

The new homes will begin welcoming tenants from tomorrow, providing safe, secure housing for more people in the local community.

Our Tenancy Relations Officer, Peter, said it was a moving occasion for everyone involved.

“It was an emotional blessing for all involved. The highlight was the kapa haka group from Nelson Central Primary School across the road, who performed four haka with singing.”

Rachel Boyack MP, Labour MP for Nelson, and Nelson Mayor Nick Smith were also in attendance to mark the blessing of this beautiful new development, located just down the road from our Nile Street complex.

Thank you to Kāinga Ora for inviting us to be part of this special occasion.

Happening now: the 2026 Community Housing Aotearoa - CHA Conference in Tāmaki Makaurau.

We are pleased to be joining sector colleagues from across Aotearoa for this year’s conference, themed 'Delivering for Today, Preparing for Tomorrow'.

It is a valuable opportunity to connect, share ideas and explore how we can continue working together to deliver more safe, secure and affordable homes, while preparing for the housing challenges ahead.

We’re looking forward to learning from others across the sector and contributing to the conversations shaping the future of community housing in Aotearoa.

For Samantha, having a stable home has made a big difference.

“My home is my home,” Samantha said.

But setting up a new home came with its own challenges. Having only ever had a bedroom for the past 20 years, Samantha now had an entire house to fill and a home to make.

Her community rallied around her, with donations including furniture helping turn the house into a more settled home.
