*** FINALLY!! PROPOSED SUBMISSIONS ON PROLONGED CONFINEMENT ***

Finally the submissions are now open on the proposed regulations to address prolonged dog confinement (submissions close on 23rd Nov 26).

CDANZ has been pushing for this since 2021 when we submitted the Ban Life Chaining and Life Containing petition and this was subsequently accepted in Parliament ( however this was split and only Life Chaining addressed).

There are over 250,000+ Life Chained/Contained dogs in NZ today who continue to suffer on a daily basis.
This is no way to treat mans best friend in a 1st world country.

We encourage everyone who is able to make a submission to please do so

*** SHADOW UPDATE ***

Shadow after 5 mnths is still in foster care.
He is just over 3 yrs of age (neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, registered).

His fosters say he is the most loving loyal quiet companion.
He is a complete couch potato inside and loves to snooze in the sun, and he has no separation anxiety.
He is not an energizer bunny at all but just loves his walks and is good on the lead.
He is so good with all people and all other dogs.
A cat free home is preferred.

*** HONEY & SNOW ***

More and more LifeChained and LifeContained dogs are being reported every week. CDANZ can only help a limited number at any one time, so community support, fostering and sharing these dogs’ stories can make all the difference.

❤️ Meet Honey & Snow ❤️
Honey and Snow are siblings, just 2 years old, and have been together their whole lives.
Although they have not been LifeChained, they have spent their lives in a small rear yard in Central Auckland since they were tiny pups. They have never experienced living inside a home and, until recently, had never even been walked off the property.

A huge thank you to one of our volunteers Lee, who visited to assess Honey and Snow and took them out for their very first walk. At the start of their walk they were hesitant to leave their property but eventually gained Lee's trust and did incredibly well. Both were calm and manageable and showed no interest in reacting to other dogs barking at them along the way. Lee will continue to help them so if a home is available the transition will be much easier for them. Honey and Snow are clearly a very closely bonded pair as seen on their video.

⏳ They now have only 3½ weeks. The property they are living at must soon be vacated and their owners have advised that if another home cannot be found, their only remaining option will be the pound.
These two young dogs deserve the opportunity to finally experience what so many dogs take for granted — a loving home, regular walks, comfort, security and a family of their own.

🏡 We urgently need someone who may be able to:
• Foster Honey & Snow
• Trial them with a view to adoption
• Offer them a loving permanent home
Desexing, microchipping, vaccinations and registration can then be organised.

*** LIFE CHAINED DOG WAITOMO 'AREA' ***

This neglected lovely natured young dog was Life Chained here as a tiny puppy in the Waitomo area (the pup is now 7 mnths old). The pup is very malnourished.

CDANZ is based in Auckland and can only help afew, and know no one in the Waitomo area to commit to the ongoing visits required to help.

In this instance the 'concerned person' made contact to understand how CDANZ helps Life Chained dogs.
They have just made the 1st visit, and were able to establish a good connection with the owner to ensure ongoing visits in the hope the dog may eventually be relinquished.

This dog's living circumstances are clearly not covered under the new Regulations as the dog is over 6mnths of age and has food/water and shelter of sorts.

*** ❤️ BUDDY UPDATE ❤️ ***

Buddy was 9 years old when he found his 1st Forever home (in 2022)

A Huge Thankyou to Buddy's owners for giving him his best ever life.
His owners say he is truely the best boy, he just loves his camping trips away from home and is a total snuggle bug.

(Life Containment Update - Mr Hoggard states he is still looking into Life Contaiment of dogs. The current legal option, if an owner so chooses, to remove the dog off the Life Chain and then cage or keep the dog in a box etc... for the remainder of the dogs life this is still legal.
Life Containment of dogs is cruel and inhumane. It is unbelievable this barbaric practice is still accepted in NZ when other countries have long ago banned this).

***❤️ LEO UPDATE ❤️***

Leo who was relinquished at 4 1/2 yrs of age went to his trial to adopt home in the weekend. Such a good quiet boy in the vehicle.
Huge appreciation to this lovely family for giving Leo this chance at his best life ever.
He is currently settling in quietly and well.

Luna just over 6 yrs old, relinquished, however is still at the property where Leo had come from.
Luna is lovely natured (and quiet) as Leo is, and not an energizer bunny.
She gets on with all people, other dogs and cats.

*** LIFE CHAINED PUP 'PANMURE AREA' ***

This Life Chained young pup is chained to the front and rear porches or sometimes tied to the side fence of the property.

The previous young Life Chained pup at this property was uplifted and destroyed for non registration - and replaced 3 months later by this hapless poor pup as in photo.

CDANZ is recieving So many addrsses weekly of these suffering dogs and simply does not have a team of volunteers to visit ongoing the 100's + 100's of these dogs reported. Hence can only help afew.

Is there anyone experienced in ground level welfare work, living in this area or a bordering suburb who would be able to commit to Ongoing helping this Life Chained pup.

*** BUNNINGS NEWLYNN FUNDRAISING SAUSAGE SIZZLE ***

CDANZ with Guiding Paws and Club K9 will be at Bunnings NewLynn this Sunday 13th September 8am to 4pm and welcome all who are able to come and support (vegan sausages available).

If you are looking at - or in a position to adopt a deserving rescued dog (all saved from life chaining) this would be an ideal opportunity to meet some of these truely deserving lovely natured dogs.

Please share as much as in order some of these lovely young dogs and others in long term foster care coming to this event have a chance at finding their forever best homes.

A longtime volunteer of Chained Dog Awareness NZ has had a freak accident with their dog this afternoon, every dog owners worst nightmare.
Pearl has fallen over 30 meters off a North Head cliff in Devonport this afternoon.

*** WEST AUCKLAND LIFECHAINED DOG UPDATE ***

Chip was chained to his kennel in the evenings and lived outside at the property rear due to the tenancy not allowing a dog to be inside.

Chip was relinquished and has now been officially adopted.

Huge appreciation to his new owners for providing such a lovely home for this special boy, whereby he is a well loved family member and all fine if he wants to jump on the couch to rest on.
Chip is truely living his best life ever.
