⚠️ Stalking is a pattern of repeated and unwanted behaviour that causes fear or distress. It can happen both online and offline through phones, social media, location sharing, fake accounts, messaging, and other digital spaces.

From today, stalking will officially become a criminal offence in Aotearoa New Zealand. Under the new law, repeated behaviour directed at another person that is likely to cause fear or distress may be considered stalking, including behaviour carried out online or through digital technology.

Online stalking can include:
• repeated unwanted messages or contact
• monitoring someone’s activity or location
• fake accounts or impersonation
• threats or intimidation online
• sharing or threatening to share private information or intimate images
• attempts to access someone’s accounts or devices 📱

Netsafe has worked alongside Women's Refuge New Zealand
, Shine, The Light Project, Auckland Women's Centre to develop guidance, support, and practical safety information to help people better understand stalking behaviours and where to seek help. 💜

New Roblox safety updates are rolling out for younger players in Aotearoa New Zealand.

Roblox has announced new age-based account experiences for players under 16, including:
🧒 Roblox Kids (ages 5–8)
🎮 Roblox Select (ages 9–15)

These updates are designed to create more age-appropriate online experiences and provide parents and caregivers with greater visibility and control over how younger players use the platform.

The updates include:
• expanded parental controls
• updated communication and chat settings
• more tailored game and content recommendations
• additional account restrictions and safety protections
• simplified experiences for younger users

Features for younger users will now be more limited by default, with additional permissions and settings managed through parent accounts.

As online platforms continue to evolve, it’s a good reminder for parents and caregivers to regularly check in on:
• privacy settings
• who young people are playing or chatting with
• screen time tools
• how to get help if something goes wrong online

💗 Today is Pink Shirt Day, a day to stand together against bullying, celebrate kindness, and help create communities where everyone feels safe, valued and respected.

For Pink Shirt Day, we asked youth aged 13-17 as part of our Young Digital Leaders programme to share what cyberbullying means to them, in their own words.

As more of our lives happen online, creating safer digital spaces is something we all play a part in. Listening, supporting others, and speaking up can make a real difference.
