BIG congratulations to our brilliant artists! ✨🎨

We’re doing a very happy little dance for Quanting Sim, Joanna Lynskey, Kirsten Ovenden and Geena Hill, whose incredible work was selected for exhibition at this year’s IHC Art Awards at Webb’s in Wellington! 🥳

And then came the really exciting news… their artworks SOLD! 🖼️💥

This is such a wonderful celebration of their creativity, individuality and the artistic voices they continue to develop in the studio. Seeing their work exhibited, connecting with new audiences and finding new homes is something we are incredibly proud of.

Four artists. Four unique voices. Four very big reasons to celebrate! ❤️🎉

Artwork descriptions

1) Quanting: Abstract artwork with bright pink, blue, green and gold textured circular shapes.

2) Joanna: Abstract portrait painting featuring her bosses.

3) Kirsten: Abstract landscape featuring a car travelling along a road on a road trip.

4) Geena: Textile artwork on hessian featuring colourful stitched figures, landscapes and abstract shapes.

As Matariki comes to a close, we’re reminded of the importance of reflection, hope, and new beginnings.

At Mapura Studios, we see every day how creativity brings people together, celebrates individuality, and creates a sense of belonging. As we look to the months ahead, we’re grateful for our incredible artists, tutors, volunteers, supporters, and community who make that possible.

May the spirit of Matariki stay with us long after the stars fade from the winter sky.

Mānawatia a Matariki. ✨💙

Happy Volunteer Week! 💙

Meet Bowen, one of our amazing Mapura volunteers, sharing what it’s like to be part of our creative community and why he loves volunteering here.

We’re so grateful to all our volunteers who bring energy, care, and creativity into Mapura every day.

Thank you for making it so special. 🤩

Image description: Bowen standing in front of artwork at Mapura Studios, speaking about his experience as an international student and volunteer, and sharing how much he enjoys supporting artists with their creative work.

Transcript:
“Hey everyone, my name is Bowen and I’m an international student studying my Master’s Degree here in New Zealand. I’ve been volunteering here for almost a year. It’s a wonderful place and I really love Mapura and everyone here.

My favourite thing is helping people with their artworks—like Jayden with his jewellery, and Wayne who loves robots. I just need to be careful giving him brushes because he paints so fast!

Everything here is really fun and I just really enjoy it. If you want to join or volunteer, this is a great place to be.”

Thank you 🤩 Thank you 🤩 Thank you 🤩
