Mapura Studios (formerly Spark Centre of Creative Development) is a creative space offering innovative art programmes for people of all abilities, with particular care given to ensuring those with diverse needs are provided for. The sessions provide a

learning process in visual arts education especially orientated to the requirements and circumstances of our artists; they also promote and encourage self-development through the vehicle of creative expression.

Led by our wonderful music teacher Dave, alongside talented musicians like Harry, our sessions are all about creativity, expression and having a great time.

As Matariki comes to a close, we’re reminded of the importance of reflection, hope, and new beginnings.

At Mapura Studios, we see every day how creativity brings people together, celebrates individuality, and creates a sense of belonging. As we look to the months ahead, we’re grateful for our incredible artists, tutors, volunteers, supporters, and community who make that possible.

“Hey everyone, my name is Bowen and I’m an international student studying my Master’s Degree here in New Zealand. I’ve been volunteering here for almost a year. It’s a wonderful place and I really love Mapura and everyone here.

My favourite thing is helping people with their artworks—like Jayden with his jewellery, and Wayne who loves robots. I just need to be careful giving him brushes because he paints so fast!

Everything here is really fun and I just really enjoy it. If you want to join or volunteer, this is a great place to be.”
