Māpura Studios is a creative space offering visual art, music, and movement programmes that support emotional expression, connection, and wellbeing. Mapura Studios (formerly Spark Centre of Creative Development) is a creative space offering innovative art programmes for people of all abilities, with particular care given to ensuring those with diverse needs are provided for. The sessions provide a

learning process in visual arts education especially orientated to the requirements and circumstances of our artists; they also promote and encourage self-development through the vehicle of creative expression.

“Hey everyone, my name is Bowen and I’m an international student studying my Master’s Degree here in New Zealand. I’ve been volunteering here for almost a year. It’s a wonderful place and I really love Mapura and everyone here.

My favourite thing is helping people with their artworks—like Jayden with his jewellery, and Wayne who loves robots. I just need to be careful giving him brushes because he paints so fast!

Everything here is really fun and I just really enjoy it. If you want to join or volunteer, this is a great place to be.”

What an incredible night at Mapura’s very first op shop event ‘Fashion for a Cause’ 💛

It was honestly so special seeing our community come together, dressed up, out on the town, and just enjoying being with each other. The energy in the room was something else, full of connection, laughter, and pure joy.

These are the moments that remind us why community matters so much.

Thank you to everyone who came along and made it such a memorable night. We’re already excited for what’s next…

🎨 We’re Looking for Qualified Art Tutors to Join Our Team! 🎨

Do you have a passion for art and a passion to support others in their creative journey?

We’re currently recruiting art tutors to work with our amazing community of artists, helping them build confidence, develop skills, and express themselves through creativity.

✨ What we’re looking for:
- A qualification in art (e.g. Fine Arts, Visual Arts, Design or similar)
- OR relevant experience teaching or facilitating art sessions
- Confidence working with people of all abilities
- A patient, encouraging, and inclusive approach

✨ Your role will include:
- Planning and delivering engaging art sessions
- Supporting artists to explore different techniques and materials
- Creating a positive, safe, and inspiring environment

This is a meaningful opportunity to use your skills to make a real impact in people’s lives through art 💛

What a day at the AUT Volunteering Expo 2026! 🎉

We had an amazing time meeting so many passionate students ready to give back and make a real difference in their communities 💛

A huge thank you to everyone who stopped by — we had 32 sign-ups (wow!) and even more people grabbing flyers and checking us out online 🙌

The future is in good hands, and we can’t wait to welcome some of you into our community soon ✨
